So far, I think they've done a great job with this. Both episodes were pretty solid. I noticed that FLCL Progressive feels a lot moodier and darker than the original FLCL. It has a very macabre tone with it's violent imagery and blood.

Totally agree. I'll admit, I'm a little confused by the Breaking Bad cameo complaints in this thread. I don't see how you can create a proper prequel about Saul Goodman without explaining how he met Francesca, Huell and Patrick. You definitely can't do a Saul Goodman prequel show without explaining how Mike Ehrmantraut became one of Saul's most trusted hired goons. And you can't tell a prequel story about Mike without explaining his business relationship with Gus and Lydia. The stories of Saul and Mike are pretty much linked together, in my opinion. Jesse explains to Walt early in their partnership in Breaking Bad. Which means Jesse knew about Saul Goodman's reputation long before he and Walt teamed up together. It's very possible that Jesse's friends like Badger, Combo, or Skinny Pete ran into Saul before the events of Breaking Bad.

February - Bayonetta 1 and Bayonetta 2 (Wii U ports) + Dragon Quest Builders (Third party title) March April + South Park (Third party game) May - Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze (Wii U port) + Hyrule Warriors (Wii U port) June+ Wolfenstein II (third party) July - Captain Toad (Wii U port) + Octopath Traveler (third party) + Crash Bandicoot (third party) I'm sure the second half of 2018 will be a lot better than the first half. Thanks to Smash Bros, Pokemon, and Fire Emblem. Maybe we'll even get Yoshi this year. But let's not fool ourselves. The first half of the year was relying on Nintendo ports + third party games.

I remain somewhat optimistic that Gotham might survive for one more season. The producers said Season 5 will be a reboot of the show. (Not that there was anything wrong with Season 4 -- quality wise, it's one of Gotham's best seasons) Also, Season 5 would let the producers wrap the show up with Bruce finally becoming Batman and Gordon becoming commissioner.

Well, if what I've heard is true...and that's a very big IF... Your "happiness" would ultimately depend on two things. 1. Whether you're a fan of this particular Nintendo IP. 2. Whether you're a fan of this genre. That's why I said I don't know how the internet will react. You can be a huge fan of the IP, but you may dislike the genre. Or it could be the opposite: you can be a BIG fan of this game's genre, but you were never a fan of the IP. Again, that's assuming there's even a smidgen of truth to what I've heard. I don't plan to elaborate much more on this, but I hope I answered your question.

Nintendo's plate seems kind of full this holiday season with Fire Emblem, Smash Bros, and possibly Pokemon. Today someone asked me if Nintendo dropped the ball with 2018. Honestly, I don't think so. It's true that this year (especially the first half of the year) is heavily reliant on third parties + remasters/ports of older Nintendo titles. But I think Nintendo will "redeem" itself during the last 4 months of the year. , , and would be, in my opinion, a great holiday lineup. As long as none of those games get pushed into 2019.

You summed it up perfectly. As much as fans praise Switch's Year 1, the system's library didn't start picking up momentum until around the summer. Very true. Also, not every Wii U owner has played every single Wii U game. I know plenty of Wii U owners who didn't play Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Wonderful 101, Pokken or Bayonetta 2. I always think back to when Naughty Dog conducted research that said

I would prefer if Nintendo took their time with Pikmin 4 and didn't rush it's development. I say this as someone who considers Pikmin 3 as one of the Top 5 best games on Wii U. Oh, I see. I somehow misinterpreted that sentence. My bad, . Yup, it's just a small 2D indie game so I don't want to overhype it. This will be the second game that I've worked on as a designer.

Yeah, I'm expecting Smash Bros to have a significant amount of new content. My expectations: New stages, new playable characters, possibly returning characters. Maybe we'll see some stages from the 3DS version recreated in HD. I don't think Smash Bros will be a straight simple port. They will probably position this as the "Ultimate version of Smash Bros". Anyways, we won't have to wait too long to hear about it. At the bare minimum, it will at least be around Mario Kart 8 Deluxe levels of new content. MK8 Deluxe was not exactly a slouch in the content department: All of the Wii U DLC + 7 brand new playable characters + Brand New Battle Mode + Eight Switch exclusive new battle tracks.

Since everyone is on the topic of Metroid Prime... Speculation: How would you feel if Nintendo released Metroid Prime Trilogy HD on Switch this year, and then released Metroid Prime 4 in 2019? Do you think that would be a smart idea? Do you like that idea? I bring this up because Sony released Uncharted Collection in 2015, and then they released Uncharted 4 in 2016.

After City Folk was released in 2008, it took Nintendo four years to release New Leaf (2012). And New Leaf didn't get released in the west until 2013. Also back in October, Nintendo released Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp -- which took over two years to develop -- and it was delayed several times due to development issues. There is no code red yet. But Nintendo is close to 20 million Switch consoles in fiscal 2018. That would bring the console's worldwide install base up to 37 million units. Having health sales + healthy catalog is fine, but that doesn't mean you should be blinded by success and grow complacent. They will need a big title in Holiday 2018 to keep momentum going.

It's true that a good chunk of Nintendo's big releases are coming in 2019. But I don't remember implying anything about Pokemon missing this year. Honestly, I don't know a lot about Pokemon. My impression right now is that Metroid Prime 4 and Animal Crossing are still very early in development.

Over the last 15 years, Nintendo created a lot of new IPs, but very few of them had universal appeal outside of Japan. For every 2-3 successes (Animal Crossing, Wii Sports, Splatoon) they've also released many new IPs that were commercial failures (Steel Diver, Wii Music, Odama, Cubivore, The Wonderful 101, Sing Party, Doshin the Giant, Chibi Robo, Geist, Devil's Third). Even Ever Oasis, which was released this year on 3DS, is a commercial flop. It feels like they didn't figure out the formula for a successful new IP (Strong multiplayer focus + appealing characters) until Splatoon and ARMS came along. Wii Sports also followed that formula (strong multiplayer + Miis were appealing characters).

Technically, you're right. But are they still big success stories like Splatoon and Animal Crossing? I'm not entirely sure about that. Both of those IPs took a huge hit (sales wise) during the 3DS era. Four months after 3DS launched, retailers were selling Nintendogs + Cats for $15-$20.

That sums it up pretty well. One thing I've noticed over the years is people really want Nintendo to have their own Naughty Dog. Basically, a studio that will make the type of western software that Nintendo would never make. And I noticed that some people get angry when Retro Studios doesn't try to be Naughty Dog or Bungie or (insert western company here).

I'd love another Wario platformer with a similar hand-drawn art style as Wario Land Shake It. But this time in glorious HD. Too many 2D platformers was definitely a problem for Wii U. But an even bigger problem was NSMBU and 3D World being so similar to NSMB2 and 3D Land. Sometimes Wii U felt like I was just playing HD expansions of 3DS titles.

To be fair, New Fang specifically said Donkey Kong 'Country'. 'Country' series = 2D Sidescrolling platformer. Mario Odyssey required creating an entire new engine from scratch. I don't see why a new DKC (2D Donkey Kong platformer) would need a new engine when they can simply re-use the existing engine from Tropical Freeze?

I wonder if 2018 will be "Year of the 2D Platformer" for Switch. Obviously, Yoshi and Kirby are coming in 2018. But there's a strong possibility of a Tropical Freeze port. Historically, every single DKC game has been ported to another system including DKC Returns and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. There's also the possibility of 2D Mario in 2018. Perhaps something related to New Super Mario Bros or Super Mario Maker? This is just pure speculation on my part.

No worries, NinjaCoachZ. As long as people are discussing topics that are relevant to the thread, then everything is perfectly fine. Being an admin doesn't mean that I am above criticism. Personally, I would like to see Next Level Games take another stab at Luigi's Mansion. Luigi's Mansion is one of those IPs that would benefit tremendously from HD hardware. They could pull off some amazing lighting effects with an HD console. They could also create some cool HD rumble effects when catching ghosts.

At the very least, it seems like the lack of a Virtual Console service was a good thing for Neo Geo fans and SNK fans. The Wii Virtual Console had 54 Neo Geo games. Tomorrow, Switch will reach 75 Neo Geo games.
