VR legs is definitely a thing, and yeah, I just want to chime in to agree that how much you can get over initial discomfort seems to vary a lot. Some people can go from instantly turning yellow to playing for hours without issue. Others never really get used to it. If you don't stick it out for a bit you'll never know. Great games that you *want* to keep playing in VR for hours really help though and I'm happy to hear that it sounds like this is another one.

You could get the switch version and make it five.... I don't want to count up how many systems I bought RE4 on. I'm really hoping this is good. While western RPGs aren't really my thing usually, VR is going to boost how awesome it is to explore the world, and I can't think of anything else yet with a world as large and detailed as Skyrim in a VR title. That's the main hook for me. When I get it, it'll be RE7 esque controls for me, I'd imagine. Saves me moving the coffee table.

I'm sure many of us singled out NI and displaced citizens as a basically insolvable problem for a so called hard Brexit. I'm sure many of us correctly noticed that Europe had all the leverage too. I wasn't watching the debates, or the materials put out by either side and my very first thought was 'wait a second, what about the border in Ireland?'. That we're here and they still haven't figured something out for that is as depressing as it is unsurprising. I hope Britain can still pull out of this nose dive some way some how. This white paper is still ignoring that we've got no leverage and we never had any. Eurgh. The Tories need to face facts that they are fucked either way, and do the least damaging thing to the country.

If it was established that the owner left their gun loaded somewhere in their home where a child had access to it here in MA, and that child shot themselves, the owner would go to prison. They would go to prison for longer than if the child hadn't hurt anyone with the gun. Other things that would increase how serious a crime it was, include *type* of firearm. In Texas as I understand it, there is no such state law. Am I wrong?

I see, so it's specifically illegal not to secure your firearm where a child you have reason to expect to be might acquire it. Thanks for the info. After the shooting in texas I looked up to see if you had to secure a firearm in texas and saw you didn't. Here in MA, all the things about children getting a gun are part of that law. But you've put me straight on the specifics as to children getting access in Texas. I genuinely appreciate it. I don't like believing something to be true when it isn't and I'm never happy to have spread misinformation. So, again, thank you. Any idea the penalties? It's kind of weird that it doesn't go into that. Edit: Nevermind. Found it. Much more lenient than in MA.

Different sites rate things differently. Some try to write objective reviews that try to normalize the reviewers experience into something applicable to everyone. Others, it's purely the reviewers two cents. Some sites will start at 10/10 and subtract for every objective flaw. Others will allow a game with huge flaws to get a 10 if its incredibly fun. We may prefer a specific type of review, but I think there's value to have a broad spectrum of opinions and indeed ways of distilling the text down into a number. That some third party sites like metacritic and RT want to average them all out, doesn't for me justify losing different types of scoring systems or reviews. If polygon want to rate a game out of 10 purely based on the subjective experience the reviewer had, whether that's praising a game, or criticizing one (like say, in that infamous Bayonetta review) I'd say there's no problem with that. If you don't like that style of review, hit up a different site.

The i5 is the one you want to buy, too, incase people don't know. Passively cooled and silent, with better battery life. It's kind of neat you can get one with an i7 but I think the downsides far outweigh the upsides. That's a great deal. I want one to replace my Surface 3, which this is measurably better than in every way... but the market for the 3 wasn't exactly big in the first place.

It's their third try at this. As someone who has a Surface 3 and I think I even still have an RT kicking around somewhere (what a weird experiment THAT was), this appeals to me in ways I doubt it appeals to many. Which is sort of hilariously missing the point. Beyond people who have already love the Surface line (all because of the Pro, basically) that want a secondary surface for using in bed or on an airplane when a smaller form factor is preferable, I don't see this taking off.

Between her fingers, along with some of her own hair. Microfeathers are only found in owls. As to where it happened, we can only speculate. It seems plausible to me that it could have happened right outside, and then she ran inside and passed out as she was climbing the stairs. We know there were impact points inside the stairwell. It could take a little while before the blood would wick through her hair. Other people think it could have happened in the stairwell, accounting for some of the 'swipes' in the blood. I'm no expert so I don't know which is more plausible, but that she had her own hair and owl feathers between her fingers... along with wounds characteristic of owl attacks... yeah. I'm sold.

I really enjoyed season 4 (more than 3), but season 5 is for me the weakest season so far. Some storylines worked well, like Maebe's. I really enjoyed what we got of GOB, though I suspect a lack of availability of Ben Stiller is partly why we didn't get more of it. The stuff with the beach house didn't work. It's *very* not like Arrested Development to have a reveal like that early on in the season, and then all of a sudden everyone is accidentally blowing the existence of the beach house when we've never caught wind of it before. And why does the beach house need to exist again? I'm not sure I really understand the purpose it serves. Maybe it'll pay off later. I'm hoping a re-watch increases how I feel about it, as a rewatch of season 3 did, but I'll probably wait until the second half drops.

It's insane that there's no standard or system for validating a President's claims about national security, as we've seen with the travel ban and the tariffs. It's much like how a cop can kill someone if they say 'I was scared'. If the President says tariffs or travels ban need to be done for national security reasons there is currently no recourse to prevent them, even if the national security claims are bullshit.

I don't think I've ever thought something made with chocolate was too salty. So keep that in mind when I say I really liked enjoyed what I made. The recipe I followed suggested using salted chocolate, which I couldn't find, so I added flaked salt to taste. It was great.

I sous vide chicken breasts at like, 155, straight out of the freezer for at least two hours. I usually add some salt, pepper, cumin, and rosemary to the frozen chicken breast (already portioned up and zip locked). I don't sear. Comes out really moist and tasty. It's one of my wife's favorite things we do in the sous vide.

24 hours in the water bath for a London broil, with some liquid smoke and barbecue rub, finished with more barbecue rub and seared in canola oil in a cast iron pan. It wasn't any trouble at all keeping the water level topped up (did it before bed and before work). It came out great. Maybe a little softer than everyone would like, but I got great feedback on the texture from the people I cooked for, so I think I'll do it the same way next time. I'll definitely do this again when we need to cook for four or more people.

Oh yay. Was hoping this would crop up. I got mine a week ago and have been really enjoying it so far. Day one was onsen eggs. If you haven't had them, totally do. Basically, follow the boiled egg setting and pick the lowest temperature. They are fantastic in ramen which is how we had them. The idea of them seems off putting for a lot of people, but they are delicious and not something we could have ever cooked at home without the Anova or another sous vide cooker. If you've never had them before, I'm sure this looks disgusting. If you have? I'm sure you're drooling. Day two was pork tenderloin, without seasonings just to see how the meat came out. My wife was reallllly disappointed that the medium rare tenderloin was cold in the middle by the time I sliced it and transferred it to the plate, post searing. I enjoyed it, and it looked great, but when I did the rest of it, I did it at a hotter temperature and didn't slice it before plating this time and she enjoyed it much more. Day Three was a random piece of steak I asked my wife to buy because she isn't great at picking out steak, and I figured I could cook it longer if it wasn't great meat. I forget exactly what it was, but it came out well. I think I seared it for too long though and the middle was not the right temp in the thinner parts of the steak. My cat Rowdy was about as aggressive as I've ever seen him trying to steal our food. Day four was no sear chicken breast cooking with salt, pepper, cumin and rosemary. My wife liked it so much she demanded it again the next day. Not the most appealing looking meal I've done with it, but not remotely dry (cooked at 150F for two hours from frozen), so I'm not sure what must of done to theirs. Yes, I just added the seasonings right to the same Ziploc we'd frozen the chicken breast in and tossed it in the water. Couldn't have been easier. Tonight, I followed the recipe in the app for . We won't be trying it until after a night in the fridge, but it was easy enough to do. This picture is *before* it went into the water bath, but the blue jars don't look so appealing with the lids on. I'm looking forwards to trying this tomorrow! Saturday I'm going to try that recipe for, which I'm pretty excited about too. All in all I'm very happy with it. A couple of nights a week my wife gets home late, so being able to quickly throw the food in and get it going right when I get home works really well for me, when combined with those loooong windows at which to take it out. All I have to do is pull the meat out and sear it (or in the case of chicken breast not even bother with that) and I can get hot food or her plate right after she gets home.

We watched the 'A week in twin peaks' extra last night. There's at least one tiny nugget of Lynch related insight I don't think we'd other wise have gotten. Cooper's perception of time in the lodge has been that it was basically 'no time at all' between when he last saw Deputy Andy. That's the direction Lynch gave Kyle for that scene where he runs into the police station. I hope to get many more nuggets in the other onset extras.

Which extra stuff 'became canon'? Eh, FWWM is great as is, and if you watch the fan edit first, you're really going to water down how bleak and harrowing that film is supposed to be. The missing pieces have a lot of good stuff in them, but I think they work better as a companion piece that you watch after the movie, rather than the fan edits. Like, I'm down with fan edits where the original movie isn't brilliant, but that's not the case here.

The bits in Season 3, if I remember right, were in FWWM, but they used some of the alternate angles, takes and line readings from the missing pieces footage. "Who do you think this is there?" vs "Who do you think that is there?" sort of differences. I guess you could also say that it establishes a much better link between Jeffries and Beunos Aires, which is again talk about in Season 3, but it's not like it'll catch you off guard in Season 3 if you haven't seen it. I do think people should watch the missing pieces, just in addition to the directors cut of FWWM. The of FWWM makes that easier now too.

I've been saying this for ages. SUVs and big trucks may be safer for their occupants, but they are absolutely more dangerous for anything they hit. No prizes for guessing the sort of vehicles you see with MAGA type bumper stickers on. It's almost like they don't care about other people. Since EVs and hybrids have to have noise makers installed to make them safer at low speeds for pedestrians, I suggest front mounted neon pink cushions become mandatory for SUV and truck exteriors.

I'm all in on the owl theory. I told a friend about the case. Didn't show him pictures. Just told him the facts about her injuries etc. He kept asking 'but how did she die' and I started to tell him that their neighbor had this idea. I got as far as saying 'well the house was in a wooded area' and my friend point blank asked 'was it an owl?'. He photographs birds. We watched the extra bit together. I hadn't heard about the microfeathers. I guess wounds to the bone are very typical of owl attacks. He called them asshole birds and he avoids them for his own safety. I hadn't been sold on the owl theory when I read it. But yeah I am now 100% convinced that's what happened.

I'd be up for rerendering them at a higher resolution, with all the same assets and effects etc. I do think it's a shame that there will be a weird period of movies stuck at 2K when movies before and after that period will look better. It's kind of weird to think about the 200X and 201Xs in that regard. 2K digital stuff looked great on a 2K (1080p) set, but well preserved 35 mm on the big screen or digitally scanned in at 4K blows 2K out of the water. It was probably a good transition to happen. Toy Story 1 was finished at 1.5K. A 4K (or higher) version would look better, without being any kind of travesty.

I think more than before, the dinosaurs are characters now. I'm pretty sure that's a Treverrow thing. You know the whole 'It's not A T-Rex it's THE T-Rex' and that really works for me, where as before they were kind of used as cyphers for each other (the Spinosaurus killing A T-Rex to make the point that it's better or whatever). Even the purposeful parallel between the brachiosaur you see stand up on its haunches in JP and the one that does the same thing here... it could be the *same* dinosaur. That makes it more emotionally effecting. The T-Rex and Blue are heroes now, and I get why some hate that and want them just to be like animals, but I care about that T-Rex in ways I don't care about Dr Malcolm. It was a big relief for me, seeing her getting flown away from the volcano, for example. So even though I never feared for the humans, I did fear for the dinos. But people who just want them to be dinosaurs that aren't so anthropomorphized? sure I can see how this wouldn't work for them. Me though? I care about Roberta and Blue.

I'm watching the 4K remaster on blu ray right now. It's done wonderful favors to the animatronics but the cg is starting to show its age a tad due to it being rendered at 2K and composited into beautiful 4K. I mean it still holds up better than a lot of CG that came after JP, but the gap between how the CG and practical looks got bigger. Still the best version I've seen though! The full size T-Rex animatronic is an absolute work of art.

The only pro version I'd recommend is Elvira Scared Stiff, because the non pro version has the family friendly mode turned on and you can't turn it off without getting to the system menu that pro unlocks. That's the only one I picked up. You lose a lot of jokes (audio and visual) if you get the regular one.

Do it. You'll be glad you did. There's no way you want to be stuck charging an EV off a regular outlet. Our two 17 kWh EVs take 14 hours to charge from close to empty. The number of miles it puts in per mile is terrible. Plus you'll have room for other things too, like minisplits, electric range, clothes drier, etc. We ended up having to add another feed from the street. The whole thing was pricy, but we've got loads of room to grow now.

I haven't misused mine. Even though we saw Blade Runner twice, the first was 3D and we didn't use the Movie Pass. Not being able to use it to rewatch movies is a tolerable restriction and I can see why it'd be there. Hopefully this gravy train doesn't derail too soon because it's saving me a load of money (my wife and I go to the cinema at least once a week even before we got Movie Pass). I don't expect it to last a year, but it's a good saving for me in the meantime.

I think it's allegory for the politics of today where lots of policies seem aimed at disenfranchising anyone who isn't a white American and espescially those who are Black or Latino. Now it's more of an over the top.version of the now its even easier to buy into I think. Handing this one over to a black director was a really smart move.

If you haven't been following the franchise, you may not know what it is really about. Five years ago the first Purge was a home invasion movie with an over the top premise. There was a thin subtext about white privilege, that was easy to miss. The Purge: Anarchy made it clear that that purge was a front for government led culls against the poor and downtrodden. The Purge: Election Year brought the politics even further to the foreground, but was probably meant to be more of a tongue in cheek look at the society Trump could bring about, as if he had a chance of winning. But the people vs the white supremacists in power had fully stepped the foreground. And then November 2016 happened. 2018's 'The First Purge' may have all the subtlety of a fist to the face but the truth doesn't get any less true just because it's being blasted at you in room shaking surround sound. What was absurd is now one step removed from painful reality. Every policy designed to suppress the voice of minorities on the cusp of being the majority. Are we supposed to think it is a coincidence that all these things work to suppress our voices and stop our growth? That they all have the 'side effect' of protecting the power base of those who refuse to look after anyone but themselves. The First Purge is not the best movie made. Let alone the best movie I have seen this year. But it is the painful terrifying truth. This administration is out to marginalize and stand on the neck of anyone who isn't like them. If you want to get fired up, and motivated, and have the constitution to sit through some two hours of hard reminders of how bad things have gotten, go see The First Purge. I can't believe reality has shifted so close to these movies. We can't let it go further.

And I'd argue the first movie, on reflection, dealt with a lot of the same issues, just not as front and center. Rich white people who don't want to get involved have security systems that keep them safe. Poor black people don't, and entitled white yuppies hunt them for fun. It's just from the perspective of the white privileged family in the suburbs.

Like I say, a big part of Episode 8 is to underline that anyone (not EVERYONE mind) could potentially be strong with the force, No matter their lineage. Rey is special because of the person she has grown into, not because of the origin of her dna. Why would JJ change it? Nothing in TFA suggests her parents are anyone special. The best evidence I've heard is based on the vision she has when she touches Luke's lightsaber... but it's a vision of the guy who owned it and the shit that happened to him... how does that suggest he is her Dad or whatever? Rey wanted to believe her parents were good people that hadn't just abandoned her, because of course she did.

Like I really enjoyed this film but don't have any specific fears about children because I'm not having any. I really enjoyed it. I'm not convinced the scattered laughter at points in my theatre was anything other than nervous laughter. I'm personally glad it was a well acted, beautifully shot supernatural horror movie. Those kinds of scripts were treated with respect back in the 70s (with great actors and actresses seemingly having no hesitation in taking a role in something like The Exorcist). It's so good seeing them get that kind of respect again, with fantastic casts and wide releases. That said, I'm not certain that the cult succeeded. Yes, Peter does the *cluck* thing, but Annie talked like Charlie earlier. If his demeanour or expression had changed, I'd have been convinced they had successfully got Paimon in there (like say, if he'd done that smile he saw in the reflection). I was sort of pulling for him to go 'You're all fucking crazy' and to just walk off at the end. Obviously that didn't happen. Now don't get me wrong, when I say I'm not *convinced* I just mean I'm not 100% sold that it worked. Like I'm not sure it didn't either. On some subconscious level, Annie obviously knew what was going on. Trying to immolate the children for one, but also naming the daughter she lets her grandma have access to with a name that could also be a boys name. Her somewhat careless attitude towards both her children could also be explained by this, and that could further tie into her grief. Like, she can't bring herself to kill her children, but she wants them dead so her mother can't fuck with them. One other detail, that I think there's some room for debate on, is what happens after Peter jumps out the window (which is him making a choice, even though it's the only choice in a way, he doesn't have to act and could have accepted whatever was going to happen to him). Yes, that strange light seems to go into him, but only after a dark shadow passes over him, and then moves away. That shadow could just be an actual shadow of headless Annie, or there could be more to it. I don't remember if it was a moonlit night or what.

I really enjoyed the video. Crysis 2 is a game that really struggled due to some fair expectations. Crysis wasn't just a technological step forwards, but it presented a kind of gameplay that was at the time only really possible on PCs too (though the 360 and PS3 would get there eventually). The huge levels and dynamic systems made for an amazing shooter sandbox that was at the time unmatched. I agree with the DF peeps here that Crysis wasn't 'just' pretty. It was worth still worth playing on low settings because the gameplay itself was that good. Crysis 2 would have looked like a step forwards compared to many of Crysis's peers. Even the DX9 version was a looker (again, when not compared to all the things Crysis had that 2 didn't) and running as well as it did, was a very different prospect to playing the first. Crysis 2 is a good game (although that story is nonsense), with somewhat weak AI. For me one big problem Crysis 2 created though, is that the smaller environments sort of pushed you to stealth as you went up the difficulty levels. If you wanted to play the first sort of like Doom 2016 and push push push, you had many more opportunities to hit hard from unexpected directions, but being more funneled, in Crysis 2, once you pushed the difficulty up, face to face combat got a lot less viable, whereas stealth kind of stayed just as viable. I loved switching strategies on a whim in the first, from First Blood to John Rambo, if you will. Crysis 2, while it offered gameplay options, it felt like you were only really picking from a set of strategies the designers had thought up ahead of time (Deus Ex is a pretty good comparison that they made in the video) whereas Crysis made you feel like you were the one coming up with strategies all by yourself. I remember watching friends play Crysis and being constantly amazed at all the different ways they handled the various goals the games put in front of you. I never felt that watching people play Crysis 2.

Kids pretty much always liked the prequels as I remember. Now they've grown up without really seeing them in the way those of us who were adults when they came out did. People are nostalgic for them. That's how old they are. Like, my generation gets nostalgic for absolute tripe like He-Man, and the prequels are better than that.

Look, I don't have a big problem with deporting violent people who don't have papers, but this rhetoric is harmful. No idea, but I think the X is going to naturally get a lot of people to switch platform of choice. A lot of us leant towards the PS4 and the Pro because they were more powerful, not because we preferred Sony. Now the X is where you go to get the best console experience in terms of multiplats. Technically speaking, (and not talking about 'for the time') it really is the most impressive console that's been launched to date. All that power in such a small well designed and quiet box. MS promised something capable of native 4K and absolutely delivered despite a lot of understandable skepticism.

For best looking, I think you've got to go with something in HDR like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza 7 or Gears 4. But that's just me. HDR is so pretty in all three of those games, and I miss it when I play Gears 3 (what? that's what I'm playing most right now before I really get into 4) or Halo 5. Halo 5 still looks great, but yeah. I need that pop. It doesn't help it that Halo 3 (360) brings in some of that HDR goodness.

Apparently not. I've been reading up on this and it does indeed seem to be the case that in HDR and 4K, that PC RGB cannot be used, so the TV will default to 4:2:0 unless that 4:2:2 thing is checked off, which will give a slightly less accurate result.

Yeah. So, it was partially mitigated once I realized that my TV doesn't auto detect full / limited colour depth correctly when being fed 24hz content, which I was able to change, but it still isn't showing the correct black levels that I get from Netflix, or videogames or what have you. It's clearly an issue with the app, since the pop up menu shows something much closer to black when it overlays. I'm not surprised to hear that a fix is incoming.

Finally getting to look at some actual X enhanced titles. Tomb Raider looks super pretty. From my couch on my 58 inch screen, enhanced's IQ is on par with the native 4K, with clearly improved shadows and geometry detail, so enhanced is the way to go. 60 FPS may tempt me, but I'll wait to see if it locks to 60 fps or not. I should probably jump ahead to geothermal valley and see for myself. Forza 7 is just absurdly pretty, obviously. Trying Quantum Break now, which I know won't be... but I may as well check it out.

Yeeeeesh system is still downloading the games I left going last night, It finished two X enhanced titles while I slept, at least. I did get a chance to play a little Forza 7 quick race, since the bare minimum had downloaded, which gave me a choice of one car that I owned and three tracks, but it was enough to see how pretty it was. IE, exceedingly so. I also figured out my 4K Blu-Ray problem. My TV and the Xbox One X don't automatically detect the colour space when it switches to 4K 24hz. I was able to change a settings that is greyed out if I'm doing anything else on the X and get I resolved the washed out blacks, so that was a relief. Hopefully everything else will be done by the time I get home from work. I never thought my internet was slow before.

Seriously, anyone got any tips on how to resolve the washed out colours with 4K UHD Blu-Rays? Limited / PC RGB makes no difference. It's just blu-rays. Everything else looks great.

So HDR 4K Blu-Rays seem a bit borked for me (washed out blacks). Have only had time to test those and Gears 3. Everything else is still downloading and updating. I'm going to work on my NaNo in the mean time.

Yeah I was going to say something similar. Most multiplatform games have already been offering higher resolution textures on PC than the XO and PS4 could cope with for a few years now. Given the way textures are created, it's not generally much work, you're just providing the assets at or closer to the resolution they were created at, vs the downscaled ones need to fit in the XO and PS4's ram.

My X shipped from Microsoft today, which I wasn't expecting, so I picked up used copies of Gears 4 and Titanfall 2, since I hadn't gotten around to either yet. Something which I'm feeling was a very smart move ultimately. I watched the HDR footage of the former on Eurogamer. I have a Galaxy S8, so I can see the full effect on that, even though my HDR set is a relatively low end one, but it still makes for a marked improvement on my TV even if I don't get the full benefits. The split screen really helped bring that home, and having that functionality in the title will be helpful to show other people what HDR does. Titanfall 2, people have been telling me I need to play the campaign on for ages. Having seen the 4K 60 fps footage that's started going online, it sure as hell seemed like the right time to grab it. I'm also going to sign up for Game Pass, so I'll be able to check out Halo 5 also. Maybe Microsoft don't have a lot of exclusives, or what have you, but if you're taking the opportunity to jump onboard now, there's a lot of great X enhanced games that people may well have not played before. I'm certainly finding as much.

Most of the time I've seen this it's a mock up rather than a genuine thing. HDR's biggest issue (aside from how ludicrously hard it is to setup on PC) is that you can't advertise the content on a screen that isn't HDR. Something system level that could show a genuine split would be really helpful to demonstrate what's going on. Part of the problem is that many TVs process that single differently, so it'd be very difficult for the TV to be half in HDR mode and half not. Think about the sets that need you to boost the backlight levels etc. I'm not sure it's doable.

Game developers DO encourage certain thoughts and behaviors, whether they're doing it intentionally or not. Art infers and influences, and games are no different. You can either stick your head in the sand and continue contributing to things like anorexia or you can acknowledge that you play a part in it, and ensure that your entertainment isn't just making an existing problem worse. You say you want entertainment catered towards people's desires. That's what this thread is. It's people expressing their desires for what games should be like.

Cameras don't point at stuff 'in nature'. You can stare at boobs without the camera oogling female characters. Just as hardly any games do the foot fetish thing. It doesn't have to stop you. But it would be nice if more games didn't try to fetishize breasts, for those of us that aren't really into that.

When we say we want games to be more 'representative' we're not saying we want to make every single female character (I guess this term feels okay because it covers the designs for girls and women in a fictional medium) into some all in one, can't offend anyone stereotype. Some women in real life are sexy, and like being sexy. There should still be characters in games like that, that let them know that they aren't broken or weird. The problem is when you have an overabundance of something like that, it leads to things like anorexia and people feeling pushed into fitting a stereotype that's very far from who they actually are. We're trying to make sure it fits *more* demographics than it currently does. Not less.
