I am really surprised and happy with Dems about this. "Abolish ICE" is a bold and instantly grabbing policy position to take for a party that tends to be super reserved and caught up in the minutiae of having all their bases covered and not offending anyone. It's catchy and fits on a shirt. Yes, it's a position that's going to piss off the right, but it'll galvanize the left. I mean, seriously, Dems usually have a It also doesn't hurt that it's morally the correct stance to take. ICE really is a failed and dangerous force and abolished. What Dems should focus on next, as I see it from my comfy armchair, is on the follow-up response. Republicans response to this has been predictable, "DEMS WANT OPEN BORDERS!" But so far I have yet to see a Dem meet that with a response as blunt and effective, and they really need to. Republicans will win the messaging on this if Dems allow themselves to be put on the defensive immediately after firing the first shot.

You have the luxury to go from 0 to 10 on a whim. But we don't. We as mods, with power, have to exercise discernment and responsibility to use that power wisely. And that includes considering the possibility that just maybe, that poster using “nigger” is actually black. And if he is, we can't perm them. Why? For the same reason we don't perm black posters for using “nigga” in every thread like it's 1994 or some shit. Because we made the decision long ago to give known black posters leeway on using that word in either of its forms. So in that context, I think a two week ban is more than appropriate. I didn't like the context of his post, black or whatever. But longer than that, per our policies, and we'd have to consider the idea that use of nigga/er at all is a bigger problem, which would mean taking it off the table for ever.ry.body. See, this is the kind of shit that we have to think about as mods. We have to think about consistency. We spend so much time thinking about this. We can't rush to perm no matter how much you want us to; no matter how much WE may want to. Look, I'm not saying that you all can’t voice concerns. I'm not saying that our system is perfect. It's not. It's constantly evolving. But maybe think twice before accusing members, who you have known for years, who you know have your backs, of being complicit in a system to over-police you. I absolutely agree with this. I personally loved the finale, mostly because it addressed a growing problem I've had with Drag Race as it has gotten more mainstream -- the packaging of the queens themselves as products. Seasons 6-9 were pretty awful about this, scrubbing pretty much all of the humanity out of queens and presenting them as these "YAAAAAAASSSSS!!!" "WERK!!!" "HUNTY!!!" "*TONGUEPOP*" machines outside of the 5 minute emotional werk room segment. But that's not drag. Drag queens are human beings, and yes a lot of queens' drag is informed by their trauma, by the hardships they've gone through and survived, and by their politics. It wasn't always graceful, but I'm glad the show actually made an effort to show that this season. The reunion would have been boring if it was just the queens giving fake reactions to only the feel-good moments of the show so Tumblr could have more gif material. Part of Ru's job as a the host is to pull what's real out of these queens that are using platform, and for the first time since the early seasons she actually did that. And if it makes you uncomfortable, great. Because that's what drag is about.

For me, I'm conflicted, because I UNDERSTAND what RuPaul was trying to say to The Vixen. The summary of Ru's message to Vixen was basically, "Gurl, I get it and I've been there, but sometimes to get ahead you gotta learn when to shut the fuck up and dance with the devil." Because that's the truth, and RuPaul knows this better than almost anyone. The Vixen ain't going to solve racism all by herself, and being on the attack constantly (while noble and she's NOT wrong) is going to get a lot of doors slammed in her face. Just a few days ago Vixen was complaining on Twitter about how no producers want to work with her on her album...and as sad as that is, it's like no shit. You've made yourself toxic. RuPaul is cynical as all get-out, and that comes from age and the sheer number of times she must have had to keep quiet to get to where she is. If success is something that The Vixen wants, then what RuPaul was trying to get though to her was incredibly valuable. Sometimes, you gotta get along to get along. Still, RuPaul should have been aware of the optics or her criticism of Vixen. What she was saying was VERY MUCH the kind of conversation that black people have among each other in private, specifically so that the words aren't misconstrued. In that setting, it definitely came off as her attacking Vixen and defending Eureka by default. And she really should have known better.

I think it applies to them both. As much as I want to defend Vixen, there is such a thing as being consumed by your good intentions and losing the plot. And as much as Asia defended Vixen, even she was trying to tell Vixen in her final episode to learn when to let things go and not be so easily goaded. It feels bad because I see a lot of myself in Vixen (and I think Ru even said as much, which is why I think so much of her focus in he reunion was on Vixen and not Eureka. You get emotional about the shit you care about. Ru was visibly holding back tears when she went to break after that segment.) But the sad truth is Vixen is young, and this world is going to be really hard for her if she doesn't learn to temper herself. And that's not respectability politics. Sometimes it's just not being the asshole in the room.

At this point, I'm rooting for Asia for one reason and one reason only: She makes the majority of her own shit. I still love the show, but if there's one thing that I've gotten tired of in the last few seasons is how far removed the show has gotten from the reality of being a real, working drag queen. These days the show is less about your own natural talent for the art, and more about how much money you have, and what designers you have access to. And that's dull. Sure, there IS a lot of that in drag, but most queens will tell you that to be a good working queen you have to know how to make/repurpose some shit. Gone are the days of the show where you gagged at a queen strutting down the runway in a sickening outfit that you watched her make on the episode. Shout-out to Monique Hart coming to the show with just suitcases full of fabric and talent.

I'm on this boat too. I completely defended Vixen when it was her vs Aquaria, because I thought she had an honest right to defend herself (Aquaria come for her first) and there IS a history of black queens on this show getting attacked by fans for showing the same cattiness that often gets praised in white queens. But this episode was embarrassing. Tonight she showed the same abrasiveness that innocent black queens get accused of for just defending themselves, or being a part of the in-group. Only, it was just her. That everyone threw her under the bus was telling.

The problem was Aquaria should have kept her mouth shut. Regardless of Aquaria being right about Vixen's horrible wig, she's not there as one of the judges, so coming for Vixen's wig out of nowhere was definitely a petty attack on her win. Vixen isn't there for Aquaria's opinion on her drag. Vixen definitely went TOO far, I agree, but Aquaria deserved to get knocked down a peg. Based on what we've seen, and what Dusty said about her, Aquaria seems to be one of those girls who thinks she can say slick and two-faced shit then slink back to her corner unscathed. Should have been obvious Vixen is NOT the girl to do that with.

Another problem I have with MiB...is that he's male toxicity personified. I tried to ignore it, but I can't after this episode. MiB ultimately kills his daughter to learn a lesson about himself. His wife kills herself...so that MiB learns a lesson about himself. Delores and Maeve die repeatedly in their loops at his hand...so that he learns a lesson about himself. Sure, MiB is present for the deaths of Lawrence and James Delos, but they're the result of his established character. MiB continues to be, from episode one until now, a hyper masculine character who only learns at the cost of the women around him, and that's just lazy.

I mean, because it's immediately obvious that the hat idea doesn't work. We've seen other worlds where the characters don't wear hats. To me it makes no sense that Maeve was formerly Kahona, because Maeve is... Maeve. Even when she was in the role of the prairie mother she was still Maeve. Delos taking the conscience of one host and putting it into a host with a completely different likeness is something that hasn't been established before. (Especially when Kahona's body is still out there somewhere). We've seen with Clementine that even decommissioned hosts keep their control units and retain some form of themselves. I think it's more likely that Maeve was listening to Ake's story through her daughter. Her mouthing the line at the end was just to show how much his story resonated with her.

True, and it probably is possible to put an existing host into a different body. I just think that would be lazy writing at this point. The whole point of the Shogun World episodes, besides developing Maeve's relationship with Sizemore was to demonstrate her ability to interact with the host mesh network. That she used that same ability to follow her daughter makes more sense than the idea that suddenly, out of nowhere, Maeve used to be a completely different host altogether. Wyatt was never his own host (as far as we know), nor has he existed in the first of another first.

I'm in a weird place with Dolores' character. I'm entirely bored by her at this point, because they're playing her so one-note (I wish we got more scenes where the "Dolores" character broke through). But at the same time, I completely understand why she's so evil. As we've come to understand it, part of being woke is being able to remember all of your loops. Dolores remembers everything, and just think about the role she's played up until now. The beautiful farmer's daughter. In a park that seems to attract a lot of dogs, she's a gigantic steak. We got hints of the type of physical and sexual abuse she went through on her loop last season. Over and over again. Now imagine suddenly being able to remember of it. Oh, and your personality has been injected with a gives-no-fucks vigilante. It makes total sense to me that Dolores' is suddenly KILL ALL HUMANS. She's only seen the worst of them. I really wish they'd flesh this out more.

Finally got a chance to watch but man, what an episode. Rinko Kikuchi's performance took me back to Babel, and her ability to communicate so much without speaking. I love figuring out what's happening with Delos and the hosts, but I feel the show finds its emotional core when it delves into lore the park itself, and how it's being warped by the hosts waking up. One of my favorite episodes so far.

I took the red cards to be high priority people trapped in the park. The head Delos soldier said they were on a rescue mission. The Delos soldiers wouldn't be carrying flash cards of hosts because there are too many of them. And as far as we know, as last season established, Bernard's the only host masquerading as a human. And last season made very clear that only Ford knew Bernard was a host.

So far, season 2 has been a departure from season 1 in that it makes it clear exactly when we are. It's not really a mystery. Stubbs says right at the beginning when he finds Arnold that its been two weeks since the massacre. And when we go back to Bernard and Charlotte the show makes it very clear that Barnard in the present is having a flashback to the events immediately after the massacre. The events we see with Maeve and The Man in Black are also shown to be directly after the massacre. It's been made pretty obvious this time around. The only "when is this?" mystery in the episode is the first scene between Bernard and Delores.

I'm listening to Kimbra's latest, and the thought hit me: Kimbra and Carly Rae Jepsen both have what the other lacks. Both are talented and well-produced pop artists, but Kimbra has a slight edginess and adult whimsey to her music that keeps her from approaching boring and monotone like Carly sometimes does. Primal Heart gives me everything I liked about B Sides, and none of what I didn't. Much more variation in the production and her vocal. Meanwhile, Carly has this basic commercial appeal that Kimbra doesn't. I can't help but feel like Kimbra would take off with that the resources Carly has...had. Album of the year so far.

I don't think anybody is saying this, that you can't enjoy sexualized characters. But when so many characters, specifically female characters, are sexualized, and developers openly comment that they do this to get male gamers interested in this game, I think the criticism that brings from many female gamers is more than fair.

That may be so, but vastly more evidence has been provided supporting the fact that sexism in Gaming and Tech is real, observable and problem than there has been proving otherwise. You have yet to provide anything in the way of data to back your claim.
