Perhaps the best 20 minutes where-the-fuck-is-this-going Maddow segment ever tonight. All about the Russian spy couple who masqueraded and infiltrated Canadian and American societies for years, and we're content to do so for decades to accomplish their objective. Hid encrypted messages in pictures of flowers. The FBI was on to them for years, heard and saw everything, and finally pulled the plug on them in 2010. The head of the FBI counterintelligence division running all this, watching and busting these spies, was a man named Peter Strzok. He will be appearing before Congress tomorrow, in an attempt to make him the bad guy in the 2016 election. Knowing his role in busting these spies, puts a new context on the emails we know about. Also, the criticisms levied at him by the President are also put into a new context, a context one might call "projection".

Captain Toad comes out Friday. Was great on the Wii U, the demo on Switch looks and plays great! As for Labo, having built all the projects myself, unless your 4-6 year old is unusually enterprising and super dexterous, and can read, there's no way it's happening for that age. It's not like Lego where a 4-6 year old can pick up some basic projects/kits. 8-12 is the real "discovery" age range for Labo, everyone younger is waiting hours just to play for it for a few minutes, and everyone older is doing it to have an authentic "make" experience. And it does provide an authentic "make" experience, everything just remarkably works.

That's not what it means. Each entry is canon, of course, and contributes to the lore and adds mysteries. But there hasn't been much of a modern-day through-line since ACIII, other than "Juno is out and could strike at any moment." They tried to move things forward a bit in Syndicate, but seem to have halted that in favor of Layla Hassan's journey. Since Odyssey is going to pick up her story, I hope the modern day through-line gets going again.

So if I understand the concept and the PDF correctly, the large contiguous mocap data acts as a kind of animation "megatexture", overlaid with what amounts to a covering index of bone data and other data for faster/easier lookup. Then the animation engine is constantly finding an animation that matches the input (action, direction, speed, etc.) AND is better suited than the one currently being played. Once it is found, the animation just picks up right from that point, with what looks like still some blending with torso position, handling slope/stair navigation, preventing sliding, etc. Would love to be corrected on this, because I find this topic fascinating.

Some stars are blue-ish or red-ish as well, and depending on the position in the night sky and atmospheric conditions, there are specific stars that will give off a strobe-like effect, constantly rotating colors. This time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, there are so few night hours (from at least after 10:30 pm until shortly after 3:00 am). Yes to all this. In Origins you are constantly able to upgrade things, too - there's no crazy in-game resource costs. Unity had a few instances where gear available only with real money was notably better than what you had in the game. In Origins you have multiple avenues to carry the best available.

Some of these notes are just for context on the life and times of those who lived there. You can tell when other notes refer to a nearby location. Finally finished the story, over 90 hours in. Still plenty of question marks and forts to clear, and a few sidequests left. This game exceeded expectations in every way. Syndicate was great for clearing gangs from the factories in the city, as its focused scale made sense. But the scale of this world is so fantastic, and the fidelity so improved, there's no going back now. The desert, particularly the rocky areas, is incredible. I was worried about the story based on the feedback in this topic, but my worries were unfounded. Knowing people who have lost a child, and the emotions and things that happen and can happen, they really told this story with great maturity and authenticity. Bayek could easily have more games in him. Aya could have her own games as well. Outside of the very beginning, I had no issue about who played what role, or what year it was, or how long things took to happen. Bravo Ubisoft. But they should have made a few of the sidequests part of the main quest to solidify it a bit more for those that skipped sidequests. It's clear now that after a certain level the quests are meant to be post-game, but I didn't mind completing them. Not having an encyclopedia tie-in was jarring at first, but with this game it just works because each notable landmark has its own native writings explain its importance. Every time there was a sailing section I had to get my "sea legs", so it was a bit jarring to be thrown into those all of a sudden, but it was fine in the end. As for modern day - I've done all the "secret lore" portions of the game, and there is potential there - but I now see that this game wasn't the appropriate game for them to mess too much with the modern world. Still looking for a larger payoff post-ACIII though.

Horizon isn't nearly as large as this, but yes it is very clean - if you are very far away from the All-mother but can still see it, when you zoom in LOD won't trigger - whereas in ACO sometimes it does on, say, the Alexandria lighthouse or the Great Pyramid. Horizon does a great job of delimiting zones through its geography so that far-away LOD is less of an issue. But climb up to some of the highest elevations and look out, and they implement a fog solution to compromise on the overall LOD that would normally be needed to see all the details. It's kind of clever, but I also appreciate that ACO is trying to cover up as little as possible.

This is what happens, even on base PS4. Sub-sections of the overall image have their objects preserve their far LOD image, sometimes resolving when you are close-up. It's not just Alexandria. Memphis, too, and even where you are in Faiyum. I can't say there was a time where it never happened, but there are times where I'm "paying attention" and I notice it, and other times the LOD resolves before my eyes focus on that area of the image.

The Green Mountain area is so beautiful, and they've been hiding it for most of the game. There was one sidequest that probably should have been on the main path. That's an improvement for the series. In prior games they would stand around taking turns hitting you - you would see the indicator light up over them saying they were about to strike. Now you actually have to watch their moves. The one thing they had to take out, in order for going back so far in time to make sense, was not having the double hidden blade and able to chain assassin a whole group. It seems like Bayek barely pulls off a quick secondary assassination move in this game.

Having just seen the scene where the "brotherhood" is gathered, if you only did main missions and no ampitheater sidequests in Alexandria, or the sidequests in Herakelion, you wouldn't know who those people were. They should have put these on the main quest chain along with the Anubis curse sidequest chain in Saqqara Nome. If you are playing this for the first time, I would recommend seeking these out. Also, the way I carried out one of the assassinations in the group Cleopatra gives you - a minor plot point about a secondary character was never revealed to me. Maybe a "Confirm Kill" should have been added to that quest so that this part would trigger? However, the whole sidequest chain after the Crocodile, Taimhotep's Song, The Bride, and Seven Farmers - just great sidequests that show off Bayek as a character. BTW the performance of that sequence that came before the brotherhood scene was not good - on PS4 not-pro it crashed once, then after a reboot it still stuttered and wasn't smooth. First time the game's performance was terrible since the cutscene stuttering was fixed.

Nothing is spoiled there. I used sidequest titles only on separate story sidequests, and left out quest titles of other quests. Cleopatra is in this game as a high-profile ruler-type which is not a spoiler in this game or in world history. It's also not a spoiler that the main quest storytelling is a bit disjointed - you know this from the very beginning by seeing and reading references to things you never encountered. It has already been mentioned in this thread several times without anyone giving away plot points.

50+ hours in, I finally made it to the start of the Faiyum area. To this point I think at least a few of the sidequests should have been in the main quest line. There is a pretty good sidequest chain that would have made for better "training" for dealing with the Phylakes. During the Giza-Memphis-Saqqara cycle I received explanations of things about Bayek and his journey that I had questions about going back to the beginning of the game. I can't say any more without spoiling anything, but these quests make for good interludes between the main assassination missions and enhance the Medjay-to-the-people aspect of Bayek vs. the anti-Ptolemy focus of the main story. It also provides more cover for Aya and Bayek being away from each other from time to time.

My kid played through the story a while ago, so I finally gave this game a try the other night. The Switch fidelity is nice, the transition from the grayscale Cap kingdom to the Cascade kingdom is very cool, very Wizard of Oz - and the environment effects (gravity affecting run speed, water, etc.) are nicely done. Taking lives from the bank of coins is a good idea. On the first shot I was able to get 16 moons and all the round things from the Cascade Kingdom, but the camera gets in the way a bit - I don't remember this happening in a Mario game before. But overall I feel like when flinging the cap to make things happen, I've done this before in the Galaxy and 3D Land/World games just by walking over something or jumping or spinning or riding on a ball or creature. Maybe the Cascade kingdom is too much of a tutorial area for now. We'll see.

At least this confirms that they will look at it. The language in the statement is asking for more time and making an appeal to the community, while not committing to declarative statements or ruffling feathers during a console launch week. Notice they're not saying whether they can replicate the problems, or have replicated them, and on which platforms. But, they are asking for public glitch videos now during a console launch week, so they have accepted this info will spread. There is already a brand new one on youtube looking through the predator bow. If they get videos from multiple users across platforms, Ubisoft minimizes potentially ruffling the feathers of one group more than another, and fends off accusations of harming the interests of those making marketing claims about their consoles' features. They know that enthusiast sites will be making their analyses as well. And of course, asking for "which title update you are using" provides cover for disclosing just when and where the problem was propagated into the release (which they have no obligation to disclose anyway, even though as a user you know when the problems started for you). Someone in that UBI forum thread is already accusing them of conspiracy to sell more X's. But if the problem is also happening on the X, this doesn't compute. Having concrete example cases will help Ubi to show the community that they've resolved specific test cases, which is something everyone involved should want to see. Even if the X had none of these problems, X users want to know that the next patch won't negatively impact them. In the OT US Poli thread there has been discussion over how statements from journalists and public figures can be analyzed to better understand the professions and roles of sources behind the statements, and what their legal and professional concerns might be. Not to disclose or discredit people, but just to understand who takes responsibility for speaking out, and why they would craft the statements the way they do. Community managers have similar understandings about their "sources" (in this case they are internal company employees) and need to establish and maintain integrity when communicating with the public. It's an interesting subject.

Sorry to hear about the Pro/X problems, this is not happening on base PS4. I've tried zooming in and out with the bow and with the photo mode camera and LOD transitions are smooth. Siwa has a bunch of different types of structures and elevations, but was always smooth. In-game I've only caught late-streamed-in textures twice, and I only notice the game slowing a bit after making some progress clearing out a fort here and there, or during a synchronization sweep in a few particular areas (Unity was like this). But for open-world 24-hour cycle games on PS4, only Horizon is smoother. From the titles that people played unpatched while waiting for post-launch things to be corrected, if I remember right Unity took a few months to improve, but The Witcher 3 took many months yet finally got there though, GTA V was fixed in a few weeks, and Just Cause 3 got worse and has only been remedied by PS4 Pro Boost Mode. BOTW, even on Switch, still pauses in certain combat situations depending on the physics involved. At this point I think Just Cause 3 and BOTW will stay where they are, but based on precedent a solution should come for Origins.

The conversation stops cold, and I'm moving around trying to deal with the crocodile while thinking the quest is screwed now. I finally slay the beast, but I'm kinda far away from the guy now. I move in closer to him, and he just swims over and gets back in the boat on his own. The conversation then continues right from where we were interrupted. Bravo, AC: Origins.

Reviewers consistently score highly the kinds of games that are: - breeze-easy to pick-up-and-play - initially, and even hours later - let you have more of an impact on the gameplay than you expect - give you more experiences than you thought possible, and seldom take you out of them - released at a time where anticipation and expectation are both considered positives to the reviewer (yearly franchises are expected, new Mario and Zelda entries are rarer and more anticipated - AC lies in between, and for some reviewers the anticipation and expectation both sag) Look at Skyrim, Shadow of Mordor, MGS V, BOTW, The Witcher 3, Mass Effect 2/3, Uncharted, Horizon, Mario Odyssey. All true, even if their late-games and end-games end up sagging, it doesn't matter. Origins is a game that hits all these marks, even though it was only two years since the last one - so the other factors had to be that much more improved, and by and large they are. It's the breeziest-controlling of the series, the world has so many areas that are all different, and people are telling stories about hippos, crocodiles, and brutes with heavy weapons. These factors are actually the same for players as they are for reviewers, but often times the anticipation/expectation zones are staked differently. Games like Overwatch and PUBG were not quite on the anticipation/expectation radar of reviewers at first, and games with lengthy constraining intros like Skyward Sword tend to bleed anticipation in players far sooner than reviewers.

I've only just completed the Level 23 Main quest in Memphis, and have seen two dates: 49 BC before the intro zone, and 48 BC right after the intro zone. I'll be on the lookout for more (I don't need to know right now). But where I am right now, mapping the real-life travel distances and counting days/nights etc. it's probably several weeks between each main quest/assassination on average. And I've only unlocked one-third of the map.

AC has a more of a history than a stigma, and that does seem to be taken into account in reviews. Still, I've played all the AC games and can say that Origins IS very much an AC game. BOTW is more dated than people let on though - degrading weapons, respawning camps, scouring for hidden valuable nuggets, unlocking exposition by going to places in the world, and fires spreading/igniting were already in Far Cry 2 nine years ago, a Ubisoft game. BOTW and Origins distinguish themselves by being "climb-anywhere" games, something other RPGs unintentionally allow you to do if you can make a series of jumps on rocks to climb mountains.

It's cool that the Phylakes are in the world proper - they travel around, get involved in things, do stuff - if they see smoke at a camp they come running to help. An improvement over, say, an icon on a map which you would have to trigger to "begin mission" just to make them appear.

Once you get to about level 20, you can chill a bit about being too over-leveled. Your skills at this point will need two and three points instead of one to obtain. Also, you can focus more on if you want to be out-and-out melee master, pick a favorite bow, or work on your stealth, or get your hidden blade damage up, etc. The Phylakes can still kill you in a few hits if you let them, and most of the location forts have enough enemies in them, and all different layouts, to make each encounter its own thing. The dismantling vs. loot seems to be a bit imbalanced, though...I've gotten in a situation a few times where I have over 50 bronze, but very low iron, and the equipment upgrade notches need a good supply of both here and there.

I don't want to be too hard on this game because including the sidequests and incidental conversations there is so much good in this game presentation-wise. But the Ezio trilogy main stories had timeskips and managed to stay cohesive throughout the three games.

I should have started on Hard, but it's still challenging enough at times if I mess up the stealth and have to deal with being out in the open. All I've done so far is the 2-mile-diameter area centered on Lake Mareotis - almost everything story and side-wise before the Giza area, I guess. I can't believe that the map contains enough space to hold at least three more copies of that size area.

I'm beginning to think these characterizations have misled people. Sidequests in previous AC games were also voice acted/cutscened and had twists to them. Now, Bayek's motivation is discovered only by activating the quest, not beforehand, that's true. But I never understood the choice of denying a quest in RPGs - the way the vast majority of RPGs are designed, you're only denying yourself access to game content if you say "no". What a "choice". However, narrative choice isn't supposed to be paramount in these AC games - you're seeing a life as it's already been lived. On your second point, the game through the eyes of Bayek sees the reign of Ptolemy under the Greeks as oppressive to his people and the dispatchers of his son, so yes they are the bad guys. The game forbids any other interpretation because again, your seeing a life as it's already been lived. When the series did do what you are suggesting in AC3 and Rogue, I loved it but reception was mixed.

Yes it does, but it really does take a while to set up everything. For some reason, all the AC games from Black Flag on take a more "spare" approach to the storytelling. There aren't gaping plot holes, but there are time skips with not enough exposition in places. AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations, even Black Flag and Freedom Cry at the beginning have an opening movie or interstitial explaining what the character is doing there and at least a hint of why. Here there are no words. Pharaoh gives Bayek a look and that could mean a hundred things - I originally thought the Pharaoh had come to sacrifice Bayek's son. AC2 is a remarkable achievement because Ezio was brand new, and we barely knew Desmond but the game totally sold you on them throughout the game. I'm not too far into the story on Origins (just received the main roster of assassinations) but in Bayek's defense it seems he may be confronting the possibility of too much revenge. Ezio and Desmond didn't really begin to confront their own actions and purpose until after AC2.

I just completed the Sais sidequest cluster. Bravo to the whole thing - interesting quests, the effects of your progress are visible, and it culminates in a finale where you can use any and all skills. And as with other quests, you can go back to the people after the quests are completed and they'll chat with you a bit more about things. The multigenerational families seem genuine, and they're not using generic faces, either. Bayek has personality beyond "leave this to me" or "I'll take care of this for you".

They were probably thinking about the culture of the people at that time in history. You're performing a service in reverence to the mourning. This game really can't win. It starts by playing immediately, no long linear tutorial that often rankles people, and people are confused about the story. It's open world with pyramids, so as soon as they loom in the horizon people just want to go there. The early side quests in Yuma and Alexandria show Bayek's religious and municipal sides, but people just want to start assassinating regardless of time and place, even though they wanted more of this context in the beginning. Surrounding Lake Mareotis alone there are many forts with all different layouts to plan and perform assassinations, and people are wondering when the cool ones are coming. What's missing here?

Yes, there are no cave trolls in a game that's a historical simulator. But they are adding giant gods to fight, so maybe that will be more to your liking. Maybe not. And there are plenty of go here kill this "quests" but they're called locations. You get to decide how you want to take these enemies on...Stealth. Fire. Melee. Arrows, some of which you can set on fire or magically steer. Attack from above. From below. Mounted. On foot. Set traps. Make a dude go berserk, or take a nap. Attract animals or release them from cages. If they set off the alarm brazier and the Phylake sees it, you might be in trouble, make sure you know the escape routes. More planning and options here than there ever were, even than the assassinations in the first AC game.

I agree about the weapons loot, same with the Witcher 3 - shades of Mass Effect 1, too. Swapping in and out for a few points here and there. It's a lot of busywork just in the name of keeping up. Meanwhile, what makes this shield so good at damage absorption? Can I use that to make another shield good at damage absorption? It's more loot for loot's sake than world-immersing. Meanwhile, for legendary weapons, how can a level 11 item be a legend? And where are the legends? Where is the story behind this scepter that's always on fire? Imagine this legendary scepter was hanging in a blacksmith's shop, and he won't give it to you until you do something for him. It takes a while, but you complete that quest and he then gives it to you. Later, someone around town sees you using it and says, "Hey, that's mine!" and starts to fight you for it. She's no match for you while you wield it, but you can decide to defeat her, or help her find the people who stole it, if she can be believed. If you keep it, she'll send people after you until you give it up. As long as you keep defeating them, you continue to use it. But If you help her, and if you defeat the thieves doing it the way she wants to, she'll let you keep it. If you defeat the thieves doing it your own way, you may not get to keep it, but you'd get some other rewards. And the legend continues. I can dream, I guess.

on 5 small things Origins needs to fix. They're right about the stone circles - let the dialogue play first, then solve. As for berserk darts, all they did was turn people into wild animals. This game already has wild animals in abundance, some of which I believe you can tame and bring with you. So I think that mechanic replaced berserk darts for this game.

Is my perception off, or is the loot (box) scheme in this game...good? Not the ones you can buy, but the ones already in the game that count towards location completion. As I make my way towards Alexandria, the weapons and shields given out seem to be randomized, but always at or near my level. There are other places on the map NOT marked with ? where I have found loot boxes also. Once upon a time we used to call them treasure chests. If that is indeed the case then I probably should save solving the papyruses until later when I'm at a higher level for legendary/epic gear. Upgrading regular gear isn't a problem because money hasn't been an issue, yet.

I understand what you mean. Like when you're in a city (real-life) with a tall building landmark, and maybe you're several blocks away, but when you come up to the block the building just looms large. This was also in Unity and Syndicate - the draw distances in these games are done so well, they look small in the distant skyline but when you climb them you realize just how large they are. The overall map in Origins is also larger than recent open-world games. I thought they had said that the pyramids in the game were 1:1 size, but maybe that was just hype.

From a combat tech perspective, yes in combat Horizon is very clean, but BOTW stutters and freezes frequently during combat. The image quality and framerate are better in Origins than Watch Dogs 2, on base PS4 at least. There is more weight to the animations now than in any AC before it, because the heavy weapons are heavier than they've ever been and unlike previous AC characters, Bayek really knows how to use them. There are things they can clean up, sure, but technically inadequate? Nah. Unity and Syndicate had "city" stealth like AC2 - crowds, hiding behind structures/barriers, losing line of sight, etc. Origins has that, but also has more of Black Flag - crouching in grass patches, behind fences, and slow movement - but line of sight is still a factor. Every camp I've gone through so far - from the start of the game through the entrance to Alexandria - has had multiple line-of-sight blocking structures, and some have ample grass patches to crouch in. If you screw up a stealth maneuver, and they see you, there's no bias - they will come after you. But they can lose sight of you also and you can get another try at the stealth approach.

So it's very early in the game, and I'm supposed to meet this dude, side quest though. On the way there I run into a dying man whose daughter wants me to fulfill his final wish. So I go into the desert to get something for him and I sneak around a guard post to get it. When I come out, one of the guards sees me, shoots at a clay pot and all of a sudden the ground is on fire. I use the fire to keep my distance from them while I dispatch them. When I return to complete the quest, the ending is a but unexpected. Then some woman is worried about her husband so I go find him on this island. When I bring him back, the ending is totally not what I expected. I go back to the island to get some loot, run into a pack of crocs. They don't see me shooting at first, but then one of them figures out where I am and they start coming. Some axe swings later, and I've gotten a new shield, and upgrade, and loot. Then instead of meeting the dude, my original goal, I go and find a papyrus that Senu noticed. On the way to solving the papyrus, I have Senu check out a question mark on the map. It's nighttime and looks like some guards are sleeping, good time to take out the captain. So I go over there and whoops it's not a guard post it's a vulture lair! I keep missing the king vulture with my bow, so I just swing at it when it comes in to bite me and I take it down. After the papyrus puzzle, well look at the time it's time to go to bed. But I haven't met the dude yet. This game.

They should bring Rogue to PS4/XB1. Gameplay is more Black Flag with sensible refinements, and a much better Frontier than AC3. And yes, it highlights the folly of both the Assassins and Templars in that their methods are more similar than distinct, and they both rely on possessing the artifacts without really understanding them or knowing what they are doing part of the time. The non-Destiny-style menus will make it look dated but that shouldn't deter anyone, it has as clean an interface as any pre-Unity AC game. As for Horizon vs. Origins tech, yes Horizon has the edge but with Origins Ubisoft has largely narrowed the gap. The day/night transitions are better in Origins. Still, I expected AC Syndicate-level presentation and I got near-Horizon-level presentation instead, on a base PS4. If on release Battlefront 2's Theed stays largely as it was during the beta, then Origins will have an edge over that game, particularly where it can run at 60fps.

I noted a few pages back that on regular PS4 the performance is good but just has the same choppiness in cutscenes as everyone else. The stealth-grass is just as good as it is in Horizon, which stunned me. Image quality is very clean and at 1080p, an improvement over Unity, Syndicate, and Watch Dogs 2. Draw distance is better in Origins than it is in the Witcher 3 (even better than Blood and Wine). The lighting near the larger monuments and structures looks close to real at times, and I haven't seen a degraded or lesser photo taken of this game from any level of console. It's also doesn't drive the PS4's fan as loud as some other games do.

It's funny to me how we've quickly made it to Horizon or Witcher as representing the "typical" open-world game, when both were in the realm of the atypical when they were released, and in some ways still are atypical. This game, though, continues to impress - I haven't seen a bad screenshot/photo from any platform. The image quality even on regular PS4 is clean - a noticeable difference over AC Syndicate and Watch Dogs 2. The stealth-grass is every bit as good as Horizon in form, function, and appearance - something I was not expecting at all. The time-of-day lighting and transitions are also very effective, the color of the sand changing is right up there with the Mad Max game. Like Watch Dogs 2, the stars at night appear to be accurate - the Pleiades and Orion constellations are easily seen. Using the map's meter measure I calculate the map size to be about - this is very large for a game, and the LOD in Senu mode holds up for the most part. I think this game bests the Witcher 3 in the draw distance department, at least on consoles.

Hopefully I'll have my copy tomorrow, very excited for this! Since people are talking about the opening I went back and reviewed the openings of the other AC games. The best ones are found in AC2, ACB, and AC4 - they do a great job of getting you right into both the action and the story. AC1 and ACRe do a great job too but are a bit slower-paced (I did notice, for the first time in six years, a very cool, deliberate, and direct mirroring between Ezio's intro at the start ACRe, and at the end of his last scene of the game). The rest are a mixed bag as they take a while to get acclimated with the gameplay systems, though I did like the AC3 intro and what it turns into. As for the series direction over the years, I miss the tombs, the glyphs and their puzzles, and "My name is Desmond Miles". But I'm still a sucker for AC games, here are a few rankings: Best Opening Gameplay - AC4, runner-up AC1 Best Eagle Vision - ACO and I haven't even played it yet Best Modern Day - ACB, runner-up AC4 Best Opening Soliloquy - Desmond AC2, William AC3 Best Closing Soliloquy - Ezio ACRe, runner-up Arno ACU Best Assassinations - ACRe (Tarik), AC1 (Robert de Sable), ACS (Lucy Thorne), ACRo (the last one) Best Naval, Assassin Skills, and Frontier - ACRo Let's see how ACO does!

So something I thought about related to the Kratos = Tyr theory: On the way to the mountain the first time, you climb up to this area and then open the door which would bring you to the "face" of the mountain. That door opens and an Ogre pops out. That ogre says something, Atreus says "Let him go!", then the ogre bites down on Kratos' right forearm. Does this mean anything? Maybe. I searched for a video so you could see, and found this:

The ending was bittersweet in the sense that However, the end is also a happy and satisfying one. What they were left with exactly, I cannot accurately say. I went back and watched the scene near the end of Chapter 7 where Malos is all like "I'm the Endbringer ha ha" and Pyra/Mythra show Rex Aion. It's interesting to think about how much easier Malos is to co-opt as a blade. The Pyra/Mythra duo acts as an effective failsafe to unlocking the full power of Pneuma - once Rex passes muster with both of them, and he successfully imbues his properties of a driver ("Do you love this world?...JOIN MEEEEEE"), they begin to represent a larger purpose than just activating artifices.

The credits say it's a different voice (at least in English) than Gramps though, but maybe that was still the intent since Gramps first trained Rex. As for the date of the game, Pyra says some calendar date but Klaus mentions countless millennia that it must have taken for the evolution of life using the core crystals and particulate he created.

Malos and Jin are similar in that they're both searching for the architect's purpose for blades. They both deliberately delay the vanquishing of Rex, striving to understand their purpose through the battle. No one seems to unlock the full power of blades except Rex, because he's the one that figures out the architect's purpose for blades. Once he does so and tells Jin, Jin unlocks his full power and fulfills the architect's purpose for blades by preventing Amalthus from destroying everything, using some sort of ice power. A flesh-eater wouldn't evanesce upon death, but Jin does seemingly because he DID act according to his purpose. Malos comes very close to understanding, though - but resists it to the very end, perhaps because of his driver. Amalthus gets so powerfully close via augmentation, but was ultimately so, so wrong.

I had thought it was pollution, beyond the dry dust of the region. But not 100% sure. I've fast-traveled to places and all of a sudden been in a rainstorm, or in a wind-storm. The weather effects are pretty neat, where puddles form and the whole thing, but I don't know if it affects gameplay. The weather effects can take a while to transition, so you could be stuck for a while with rain if you didn't want it, even if you fast-travel. I have to give a shout-out to the day-night cycle here. It's pretty minimalist - the shadows don't move, and it seems like the sky only has three states ("day", "late afternoon", "night") where the sun really doesn't move, but they seem to make lighting adjustments appropriate for the time of day, so morning feels like morning and midday/early-afternoon feels like the right time. Adding in some real-time shadows from monsters and moving scenery and it composes a nice image that seems alive.

Yes the death process of blades vs flesh-eaters was explained, but when Jin died he evanesced unlike the others. Why? Because he fulfilled the architect's purpose for blades, once Rex figured out what it was and told Jin. That whole sequence dealing with Amalthus was really great. The shower of red energy/embers (one of which seems to burn Zeke) looks to be a fusion of the regeneration particulate The Architect created, and the last of the Conduit energy that had been fed into AION. Absent a connection to the Archtect, and using only the "information" in the Pneuma processing unit (the crystal), the regeneration process instantiated both Pyra and Mythra.

OK, finally finished my first playthrough. Kara and Marcus were alive at the end, but not Connor. My playthrough was long, I felt, but the flowcharts have so many locked sections on them still. You could not necessarily guess where your choices would lead, or if they were the right ones, or good/evil ones like a RPG with good/evil morality - this game wasn't like that at all. One time I reached a path with only had a 3% worldwide stat, and it was something that impacted across multiple chapters. Impressive. I sensed near the beginning that you might be able to play through as making "android-type" decisions, or as making "protect-humans-type" decisions, and I will do these in future playthroughs. But for this one, I decided to go with a mix of whatever came up, and was that way with Connor until the end. With Markus and Kara, at some point I had to suspend disbelief and just pick a direction for these characters and try to follow it through to the end to see where they ended up. That was fun in its own way.

I just started the game, the initial scenes past the opening which was the demo. The demo narrative gives you full agency as the negotiator, but the other scenarios you have a very defined role up front. I'm not sure how I want to play this, since in other games I'm used to exploring and hitting every hotspot I can, but should I stick to the androids' narrative roles I may not be doing this. The opening scenes do a great job of depicting androids as useful servants, with a larger effect on society. I tried walking somewhere in the open square just to see if a narrative theme would be depicted, and was impressed to see that it indeed was. It's already evident that there is tension between people seeing androids as conversational equals vs. servants/tools, and the game doesn't try to immediately solicit sympathy from you for the androids. I'm curious to see where this leads.

Yeah the Walking Dead series is like the Choose Your Own Adventure books I read as a kid, where you had dead-ends (where you died) and minimally-branching options that turned back into a mainline eventually. Even the Minecraft Story Mode games have more branching options than these. It's good to see that if you have the tenacity to go far enough to build things out (examples like the Nemesis system, branching paths/outcomes in the Witcher 3, and what's been done in Detroit), you can achieve the results.

Also, if the audience they let in cheers and hollers every time Trump says something, the proceedings will be rendered (even more of) a farce. While only two minifigs (and a hound which ends up looking more cute than menacing in Lego form), the speeder build is legit interesting - asymmetrical, sideways building and bottom building, greebling in full force, and captures much of the details of the original movie vehicle. The new Star Wars star destroyer and walker use much of the construction techniques of their predecessors, the Imperial Star Destroyer and the AT-AT. The new Technic Rally Racer uses suspension builds found on previous models like the green/blue off-road racer. Skyrim on the Switch IS Skyrim - it's as solid as any other edition. If you want to play Skyrim (again, probably for most of us) it is all there and looks great hand-held, and looks fine on the TV. Mario Rabbids is a great choice - looks very clean both hand-held and TV, and plays methodically but will reward you if you want to lean into the mechanics and the level layouts - lots of hidden things to find. Mario Kart 8, while not a single-player campaign, is a great showcase for the console and you can play as little or as much as you want at a time. As for Xenoblade 2: the handheld factor of the Switch has helped me complete the game more swiftly than if I was forced to rely on being in front of a TV just to play it, and I did not feel I was losing anything during handheld gaming sessions vs. my playtime in front of a TV. Like the first game, and Zelda and Mario Odyssey, this is a big and long game - well over 60 hours of gameplay time at a minimum. There are also lots of (real-time) cutscenes on top of that, so if you're hung up on parts of the anime-ish art style or UK-region accents of the voice cast, then it won't fly for you. The game's presentation is also a 720p-and-lower image on both TV and handheld - so at best the image is soft - but it is a clean and complete image at all times. Model-wise there are geometry corners cut in a few places, particularly with character fingertips, and low texture resolution in several places, but this serves to support materials rendering, and construct very convincing circular and spherical models at times. The UI is always clear and at top resolution, however, and despite the dynamic resolution there are very few jaggies overall - even on the handheld. English VO is not synced to mouth movements, if that's a concern. None of this, or your series "rookie" status, should sway you. It has the most rewarding RPG ATB-style system I've ever played, along with the best implementation of healing powers and power-ups of any party-based RPG I've ever played. Any farming or grinding you choose to do (and is kept to a minimum in this game compared to the first Xenoblade, or other games with "kill X amount of enemy Y"-style requirements) can be directly funneled into character-specific combat bonuses, not just raw leveling up - which adds unexpected depth. The character designs and vocal performances all turned out just fine. The battle systems, story, characters, pacing, and soundtrack all surpass the first Xenoblade - things I thought for sure that would not happen, particularly after Xenoblade X (which is a great game but a different vibe than 1 or 2). It is amazing that this game was completed in three years and released on-time world-wide, minor QOL issues notwithstanding. I hope you check it out.

Like Persona 5, it just happened to release at the same time as its "original" title. Persona 5 and Yakuza 0 were on many top 10 lists as well, so remasters can chart. You still have a ways to go in the story, too. Perhaps you've already done these though: Use Atreus to summon attacking animals. Upgrade your armor pieces to get more enchantment sockets. Sell green armor you're no longer using and upgrade your Axe pommels with the proceeds. Dump your XP into fully maxing out Atreus, and upgrade your skill trees and use parry and sprint to your advantage. Don't forget to upgrade the light and heavy rune attacks you are using, I didn't until very late in the game because I was dumb. Without leaning into upgrading and using all your skills (block, dodge, parry, bare-hand, runes, Atreus summons, rage, talisman), hidden chambers will wreck you until very-late game. My gear was not level 7 until well into post-game (I never visited Muspelheim or Niflheim until post-game), so 5 is a good number.

So when I replay a game I like, which I'll do with this one, I like to do it a few different ways: 1 - with all the stuff I had the first go-round (NG+-ish) 2 - trying to make a "better build" or "different abilities" than I did before (which is just a regular replay) 3 - super-easy or one-shot enemies to view the story/environments in a more breezy and straight-through manner I'd rather not just view youtube to view the story again, I like to be "in the moment". I know they literally just finished the game when it was released, so I'm curious to see what other play/replay options they may add.

Seeing a lot more night maps now. If they tune the jetpack game mode and add more maps, that could be a fun mode. And welp, my kid goes and plays some, then proceeds to spend 60k all at once (all on heroes, though) - never earns enough battle points to use them, though.

We're not getting the whole story here. There are tons of Disney figurines and statues for sale at Disney parks and stores where traditional Disney characters are outfitted with Star Wars gear. The Lucas media people always highlight the groups of fans who show up to their conventions cosplaying as Kylo Ren undercover ("Matt"). If someone took Pink Vader and attached it to a charitable or social cause, they might end up supporting it. They made a T-shirt launcher a "canon" weapon. Further, at this point in Battlefront 2015's life cycle there was no lag, progression was steady, matchmaking was well enough for most matches to be engaging, map rotations were steady where you would see every map in a reasonable period of time, all non-dlc heroes were available at the start, and you got access to decent weapons in due time. That people haven't seen entire maps, or haven't been able to use the most iconic heroes in almost two months since release of this game is incredible.

This game probably sold a bunch of bundles and was a common enough Christmas present. But on Christmas night almost 13000 were playing the first game according to swbstats. It's been at around 20000 peak daily for the first month of the second game's release. I've owned the second game since release and still can't play all the heroes and villains I can play in the first game. I can't play the modes offline like I can in the first game. If people experience half the rubber banding, lag, and matchmaking delays I have during the first month, they won't be catching up unless they spend their entire week off playing this game day and night. But until that changes to where most players will be able to play all the heroes in multiplayer in, say, no more than 10 hours investing in on-line playtime, I don't think they're going to stick around this environment that long.

Sometimes I just want to roll out on my own and mess around. I could do so in the last game, even though that was limited. But I agree the game is casual with online mp - you just need to get a bit comfortable with dying every so often, and occasionally it will feel cheap against someone who's got 3 and 4 bar star cards. But in due time you'll be more bothered by the imbalances you discover than anyone who has super-duper star cards. Since you can upgrade cards at levels 10, 15, and 20, maybe they will kick in matchmaking that groups those similar levels.

With Christmas coming up, and the bundle sales happening, it might be useful to survey how many battle points people can expect to earn per match based on their skill and on the different levels of star cards equipped. I notice in Galactic Assault the range goes from 4000 at the bottom to 18-20K for the top 3-5 players. Playing yesterday I could land in the low to middle of that range with no star cards equipped, depending on map and attack/defend side, and I consider myself a mid-level skilled shooter player that hasn't conquered the game's mechanics yet. So I don't sit at the top of the leaderboard with that arrangement, but I still have a chance to grab support classes/vehicles, or a hero or two before it's all done.

Even without loot crates, I've been able to play Crait a few times, but not consistently because I've had to hop in and out of online to get back to matches with sufficient player counts. I've played since launch and still haven't seen Kashyyyk. Lag is still present, but it comes and goes so it will depend. If you want access to Luke and Vader on-line, you will have to "pay" for them with credits. And then get good enough to earn in-match points to select them. And then wait your turn if someone is still alive as them. So even if you pay for them it isn't always a sure thing, just make sure you're ready to commit the credits when you decide. But you can play as all the heroes in Arcade mode without having to purchase them, so that is something, because not all the environments are available in Arcade mode. But generally speaking the game plays well. You'll be one or two-shotted by players with 3-4 level star cards a bit more often now. But the designs of the maps still put you in positions to get your own kills. Without equipping star cards I can still end up in the middle of the score list without too much effort. Getting to the top will be tougher now, until you "catch up" with a well-built star card combination that you've figured out how to make the most of.

Yes! That first phase really nails the atmosphere, you are in the fight - infantry or vehicle! That last phase though...spam 'em if you got 'em, I guess. As for the campaign add-on - it's cool, if a bit short - I didn't find anything that seemed like Last Jedi spoilers in it (unless I've pre-spoiled something for myself, but I don't think so), but hopefully you've seen The Force Awakens already. It made good use of Force Awakens lore and was worth playing. The gameplay scenarios were improved, particularly the fights on the ground. The rest will be spoiler-tagged:

What they did for Lego Force Awakens was good, and the campaign for Battlefront II is entertaining, but is really a demonstration of the multiplayer features, so it's over a bit too quickly. We'll see how well the ending comes through this week. There are so many original media creations surrounding The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi - all the books, comics, toys, etc. But no original game with a story set in the First Order / Resistance universe this generation? How is that possible? The next Star Wars game coming out after this may end up actually being "Lego Star Wars: The Last Jedi" with Rogue One and Solo DLC.

They also have a good group of people who still WANT to play the game, and want them to make the best Star Wars game they can. Removing the participation reward basically sets children back from getting some of their favorite heroes, and strengthens the argument against pay-to-win. And if star cards give other players enough of an edge to prevent card-less players from getting even two eliminations, then what good would that rule be for new players. It all goes back to the progression system outside the actual matches.

This is the quietest opening few weeks of an online-conntected game in a long, long time. Other games released in October and November have had weekly livestreams, on-line in-game weekly or weekend events, and roadmaps for new content beyond the first month of release. Putting aside the lootbox and progression issues, there's not even so much as a double XP event or an in-game weekend contest. Even the recruited influencers are rather quiet.

Funny you say that, isn't that what some people were going to do in this game? Spend to "earn"? Joking aside, I know what you're saying though - there are indeed more options at lower-tier battle points, like the LAAT against the MTT. It's possible to earn enough points back for a higher-tier hero. But here's the wrinkle - star cards can get in the way. The one thing the star cards do against other players, particularly new or unlucky ones, is limit their accumulation of battle points by interrupting potential kills and kill streaks, or interrupting traveling to an objective target - because the well-equipped players can take out these new/unlucky players more quickly. So if someone wants to save up as a hero, and doesn't have more than a basic star card equipped because they only have one slot (not their fault, of course), they're going to save their points.

It's fun and it plays well, I agree, but it's about when and where you can do so. I've been having match availability and rubber banding problems (PS4) since release day. There are offline modes in the first game that haven't made it over here for some reason. Credit accumulation is capped daily too early in offline mode. Online matches can end too quickly by playing the objective, limiting credit accumulation. Playing the objective is less encouraged than just being present, by the way credits are earned per match. Playing the objective is less encouraged than getting kills, based on all the kill challenges available. Star cards won't determine the outcome for certain, but strong ones effectively allow players to limit the battle point progression of players unlucky in loot crate contents. The whole point of Battlefront II was to get players more ways to play, and better access to heroes and vehicles in online play. Everything connected to credits - loot crates, challenges, and match rewards - works to limit players' ways to play, and access to heroes and vehicles online. The short-circuit objectives and online lag are unfortunately exacerbating this.

Starfighter assault is just cool, except when the match ends early in victory. I haven't used a star card yet, and I end up middle of the leaderboard by playing the objective some, and picking off ships here and there. The Country of Belgium and the State of Hawaii got a head start on the holiday marketing push. And the game's not finished as it is. Not all the environments are available in offline mode. No offline starfighting like the last game. No offline objective play. Online objective play doesn't reward enough. Online needs one or two more modes, or recreations of historical Star Wars events. Not enough server-side challenges. No model viewer or diorama. Assets and environments from the first game aren't present here. If they had all this, with more assists for earning credits, "farming" for heroes might make more sense.

Not high on the priority list obviously, but this game should have a model viewer. It should also have a Lucasfim "discovery mode" tour narrated by Kathleen Kennedy or John Knoll or someone in the story group or art department. Why these games don't have tourism mode where you can just take it all in, take screenshots, etc. is beyond me. They put all this work into authentic set design, and in 4K no less.

Arcade visually looks better than the beta, which is a relief. The campaign is not Dark Forces or Jedi Knight or KOTOR levels of content, but the visual quality is amazing. There are times where it is reminiscent of those games, though. It really is a campaign built around surveying everything you can use in multiplayer, but they took it narratively as far as such a survey of mechanics could go, so it is an achievement. Plus, it never felt like the whack-a-mole of some of the COD campaign sections of yore. My new favorite character is and I hope one day he can get his own story. They could patch in more challenges to the campaign as a way to earn more credits.

Following up on the last page of questions... OG PS4 here - I couldn't get into a match the first night or the next morning...performance drops from 60 occasionally in the campaign - no hitches in arcade. Luke in this game looks more like Aunt Beru a bit. Are the playlist sequences listed anywhere? People seem to be skipping around or hitting the same map while repeatedly missing others.

The campaign is fine. It serves the game it exists in as a survey of heroes, weapons, vehicles, abilities, and star cards. It is well-acted and looks great, so much so that the cutscenes masking loading times looked rough by comparison. I laughed out loud at a few points during the story, the humor is alright. Expecting a Jedi Knight type of campaign is probably too much, but expecting an Imperial-focused campaign based on the marketing is understandable. The collectables could have been diorama collectibles instead of just tally points for a challenge. At least no one was hoping for good loot in the crate in the story, unlike in the Anthem reveal trailer.

Couldn't get into a match last night or this morning on PS4, so played arcade custom match for a bit. It's fine on the ground, but no fighter skirmish matches means the first BF will be hanging around a while longer. More than 20k people have been playing it all day. Beyond the smaller events and mission release in December, I think the schedule is toast. That WaPo article with the psychologist and Jim Sterling quotes is the worst press yet. If this game was getting any visibility at the Game Awards, well...it's too bad because the moment-to-moment gameplay is fun and the campaign fidelity is strong. The cherry on top would be to find out that like Mass Effect Andromeda, there was no long-term DLC schedule. I'm hoping for better.

They already figured it out. They took a progression system designed for short bursts of RNG gameplay to attract you to pay for a chance to get a higher-level ability, and overlaid that on top of a skill-based game with a progression system based on matches played and objectives completed. In this type of game the star cards flatten the skill curve for higher-skilled players, but don't flatten the skill curve for lesser-skilled players - which is the opposite of what you might expect. Which is what makes promoting the desire for more powerful star cards problematic - the gameplay reward for lesser-skilled players with powerful star cards isn't there.

This article states that the analyst sees no reason to budge from their price projection or outlook of "Buy". Sales may come in below their projected 14 million, but the analyst is confident that the company can withstand this due to projected Ultimate Team revenue from the sports titles. So there is very little to "freak out" about, as the title suggests. With all the "digital revenue" from other titles (including Galaxy of Heroes - which is already a Star Wars game with a hero-collection mtx-supported progression system) the performance of Battlefront II may end up being considered just "disappointing" at the end of fiscal year 2018.

Multiplayer "bot-zone" has been on the list for over a year. With the last game we got "Traning" (which were really just tech demos), "Missions" (great "hero" simulator for the kids, and fun for a bit but without geographic objectives), and Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron skirmish - . Does arcade mode provide more than this?

This is what I was afraid of. I've had to explain to my kid over the past few years why he has to wait for the timer before he can play again, and why we can't buy a box of something in a game. When he does "earn" credits in any kind of game, of course he wants to go "spend" them and unlock things. He did this with the Joe Danger iPad version and loved it, but all we had to do there was just, you know, buy the game. They learn about currency in school and spending and saving money from their parents, so they understand what it means to exchange currency for goods. What they don't yet understand is whether someone paid for that currency with real money or not. As for Star Wars and children, yeah but they've all grown up to play games on their phones and tablets, and the revenue receipts are in for games on those platforms. Every week on The Star Wars Show they talk about Galaxy of Heroes and what fun it is. My close relative plays some other game on his phone and trains a team of fighters. The training cost $100 and they train while he sleeps, so he's not even playing the training portion. He loves it. Seriously.

If people really aren't going to buy this game, ever, because of the loot box scheme - wouldn't that mean that the game has already split the player base? Because when you're playing the game, what's the difference between other players not playing the maps/modes you're on vs. them not buying and playing at all?

We'll know by Christmas how well the matchmaking is working...either they get to play against each other for a while or they...get a "friendly" introduction. I am so not even close to being good at this game, but even during the starfighter assault beta when I had two and three-bar star cards I could sense the advantage over some cardless players when you know you can use your abilities a few moments earlier than they can recharge/recover. Once the game gets to the point where people are pitting star card builds against each other, that could get interesting.

This isn't a knock on what you're saying, because I get what you mean - but unless he has a medical growth condition, he can't age "too fast". Let's face it, the show moves too slowly now. We spent a good portion of the mid-season finale staring at pairs of eyes. If there really are two full seasons left, perhaps they should think about doing 10 episodes each, each a straight run.

It's funny that Lost dealt with "time travel" in different ways, but couldn't tie up the loose end they thought Walt was. Oh well. At this point TWD needs to dispense with the contemplation in its episodes. We've been there and back with just about everyone now. The worst has happened to them all, they've all had parts of them taken away (though not anatomically except for Carl). Carl was their last bastion of adult-level contemplation, and they chose to make his a finite one, even though he is old enough now to fit better into the show should it decide to accelerate forward in time. The show has got to demonstrate that they either find a way to survive in some sort of civilized fashion, or that it will be a perpetual cycle of brutal survival for the near-term. The thing is, they have another show that's on the upswing that will eventually have to do the same thing - perhaps sooner given that show has some momentum now.

Thinking about the future with Negan minus Carl. To the show's credit, they've managed to keep their supporting villain cast, and their relationship to the survivors, interesting enough. But if the survivors gain the upper hand, and they keep Negan alive for what would be a very inexplicable reason, who would be forming a relationship with him on the TV show? Carl? The "immune", "bitten by dentures", and "Gimple/Riggs' Dad Hype Stunt" theories are technically still alive, but let's call this a no. Morgan? No, he's gone after this season. Father Gabriel? They already did that in that trailer episode. So no. Eugene? As a resident of the Sanctuary, it's been done already. Plus they've got enough there between Eugene and Dwight. And after Abraham? No. Rosita? After Sasha, all of a sudden she wants to hang with Negan? No. Tara, after Denise? No. Daryl, after dog food and Easy Street? No. Enid, after what just happened? No. Aaron, after Eric? No. Ezekiel, after the Kingdom fighters getting shot up to kingdom come? No. Carol? Michonne? Ew, and No. Jadis? She gets to do one sculpture, and that's it. No. Anyone from Oceanside? After taking all their men? No. Yet we still have: Siddiq? Returning a kindness shown by Carl to Negan? Ugh, but they could try it. Gregory? Already groveled to the Saviors, would be expected but annoying. Rick? after being shaken to the core so many times? He shouldn't, but they'll probably try anyway. One of the surviving Saviors, and Negan's lieutenants? Plausible, but maybe a bit weak compared to interacting with the survivors. Jesus? Intolerant of Gregory, not 100% in sync with Maggie. Barring his leaving the show in the back half of the season, this one could be it. Anything I'm missing/forgetting?

This is the key right here. They kind of already did a bit of Carl-Negan in the show, and what was in this episode was pretty good - but people were thinking Carl-Negan would be one of the drivers of the series after All Out War. But without this, Morgan and his "jail", and trying to have us believe the TV show's Maggie and Rick would keep Negan alive after Glenn and Carl, it's hard to see where they are going to go. Unless they're going to unwind this series and move their TV Walking Dead camp over to Fear, bit by bit.

I think it's all about the potential. Potential was high in the first few seasons. Where the characters could go, what could happen? But now, perhaps most importantly this late in the series, the potential lies in whether the series continue to follow in the comic's footsteps? They made it past the Glenn situation because it tracked with the comics. Viewers have put up with a lean Negan - one that is not around all the time - because it generally has followed in the comic's footsteps, right down to the individual words, and people could see a potential path ahead. Until now.

There were a few moments in this episode with Carl that were well done. The only thing with Rick is that we've been there and done that with his "shaken to the core" moments, how many do they have left for him? I saw or heard somewhere that in Rick's dreams Carl and Michonne haven't aged? Could that mean something? Her career has been on the rise, she wrote a play, and she's part of the MCU now.

Which reminds me, they've done nothing with Jesus this season so far. The "good angel" on Maggie's shoulder thing didn't play great in part because, as you've noted, Cohan is totally capable of handling the morality struggle on her own. And if they were going for a "Jesus the angel on one shoulder and Gregory the devil on the other", I think they need to give her character more credit than that.

So the back half of the season perhaps will be this: - A Farewell to Carl - How Eugene Saved the Saviors - New leader at Oceanside - A King Dethroned - Negan / Saviors perspective - A Farewell to Morgan (not necessarily death) - Hilltop final stand That leaves one episode for messing around with stuff - like maybe Rick and Daryl rematch or Maggie / Jesus or something.

This game, to me, succeeds in a bunch of things that Final Fantasy XIII tried to do. It's actually refreshing that a final boss makes you use the central party-based mechanic of the game in order to defeat it, instead of just exhaustively whittling down a health bar. I beat it with two rounds of orbs and chain attacks, but I've seen people go all out to max-damage their party and do it in one round.

I like going back to the affinity charts when circles get filled in and reading the comments the characters "post" about what they thought of that particular task. I spent almost no money in this game. If by the first part of Chapter 7 you haven't opened a bunch of cores, understood the pouch/favorites mechanic, worked on some affinity chart progress, and had at least a few successes bursting orbs, it can get a bit rough until you can catch up. If you tend to play RPGs as a "hoarder" like I do, you'll make less progress in this game. You're really supposed to actively use much of what you pick up. I had to stop and spend a bunch of time slotting items and opening cores and looking at the affinity requirements to try and get an extra 10% damage or protection or whatever by going back and finding the species to kill to satisfy the requirements. I also got to level 2 of the merc, but trying to get to level 3 with the amount of points each mission was rewarding took too long, so I finished the game without getting 8000 or whatever the number is.

Game Informer just released their 2017 RPG awards...not a single mention of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (they gave it a 7.5 score, and called the battle systems impressive but the overall game a rube goldberg contraption adding up to something mundane, and only a handful of standout moments). Yet their review was very complementary towards the game's systems, and appropriately critical of things like turning up rare blades and some of the side quests. While it was a great year for RPGs overall, they found an award for just about every other major 2017 RPG, and one 2016 RPG (FFXV).

In this case FFXV was given the best Post-Launch Support award - they acknowledged it came out over a year ago. XB2's review was posted November 30, and the author said he gave the game about 100 hours of playtime, which is more than enough playtime to review the game.

I agree - as long as the game is, it is pretty well-paced with few heavy progress gates. Most of any grinding can be channeled into affinity chart progress rather than just leveling up in hopes of hacking away at an enemy's health bar. Even intra-battle progress can be accelerated with the right equipment. Perhaps the Bana subplot could be considered extraneous compared to everything else in the story, but that is a smaller part of the overall story.

Yeah, it does a great job of acclimating you to the whole audio/visual presentation of the game. The contrast is stark, though - since you have access to very few game mechanics at that point, most of that Torna sequence is one auto-battle encounter after another reminiscent of the opening portions of FFXIII - but then after you meet up with a particular character, it goes straight to anime-WTF mode and never really stops, and it's remarkably enjoyable.

Solo got his own theme by John Williams for the new movie. There are themes in the newer movies, but all the "stately" ones were done in the OT. Everything else that came along did get more complex and mysterious sounding over time, like you said. Plus the old themes get more sunk in as layers of meaning and references are added back to what came before - even happened on The Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows. I'm bummed that Rogue One and Solo OSTs didn't include end-credits crawl music. Also, I'm beginning to think not having opening crawls in non-saga movies is a mistake. As obnoxiously pompous as they are, the opening crawls do serve as short hype-trains for the events to come.

I'm hoping there's a Star Tours ride in our future where L3 is piloting, that would be hilarious. If there's a movie with Obi-wan in the future, I think the people you have to prioritize bringing into it are Qui-Gon and Ahsoka Tano. It would also be an opportunity for more galaxy-building since Obi-wan is supposed to be in hiding/exile. Maybe Thrawn? If there's a Boba Fett movie, I think you gotta go with Aurra Sing and Beckett being involved, and how Boba ends up on his own. Qi'ra could be in this as well. Unless you're talking post-saarlac, then I guess it's really wide open. As a Star Wars "wretched hive of scum and villainy" CU, it could work, while the "saga" keeps spinning along.

The second tweet, however short on information, seems to be the generally acknowledged story. Having seen the film, it seems clear to me that it was important that certain scenes, lines, and actions tie to moments in the original trilogy. Not for "fan service" callouts, and not to lead directly into the original trilogy like Rogue One did. Or even to take Han from "young kid" to "pilot we meet in the cantina" - they didn't do this quite yet. But merely to augment context, or establish context to original trilogy moments where there seemingly was none before. (For instance, Lando's initial approach to Han in ESB, and Han's line in ANH 'Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid'...perhaps now a cynical outward rebuff of old feelings of the fight with Vos, Qi'Ra, and Maul I suppose) If they sensed that the use of some improv would jeopardize having these connections in the film, I could see how that could bother them - "tone" is just a nice way of putting it without disclosing too much, or spoiling these contexts (that they insist were in the script, and they insist they stuck to during production). One day hopefully we will get the "oral history" of what happened, and also find out which pieces from Lord and Miller they kept in. I've mentioned the TLJ making-of documentary in this thread before - for that movie they were essentially on-time and on-budget, and yet were nervous wrecks about schedule through most of it. I can't see how it would be any easier for Solo - and possibly worse having a crazy-busy actor like Woody Harrelson, a series-committed actor like Emilia Clarke, and now super-in-demand Donald Glover who aren't available to you forever. So it's very possible that taking too much time on catching moments via improv was something that bothered the producers and brain trust, while the actors and some crew just rolled with it. As for the improv, I'd be thrilled to find out that there are hours of improv takes from different chapters of the "Calrissian Chronicles", and I'd want to watch them. Having an older Lando reminiscing by watching one of these in Episode IX would be a neat callout, if they put Lando in that movie.

There was a movie that came out while I was a boy that was like this, and it's talked about this way now, where the main character didn't have much of an impact on the story. Sure, there were exciting chase sequences and special effects, hints of romance, smuggling, and a genteel antagonist more interested in fine dining than just being a mean man. Funny enough, that movie was also written by Lawrence Kasdan. The movie is Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Not the best movie ever, and very much b-movie popcorn flick in style, but it led to many great movies in the future.

The craft of the movie is supremely high - music, cinematography (plenty of wide open expanses), effects, cgi+real effects combos, acting. It was fun, and at times exciting. I would like to think there is enough of Lord and Miller still in this movie, the way there was enough of Amy Hennig still in Uncharted 4 when it was all done. After reading a bunch of comments in here, I think there are a few thematic points I can offer: - this band of ne'er-do-wells are not survivalists in the least. They are a bunch of dreamers, whether that has to do with being the good guy (Han), the flyboy would-be cantina owner (Rio), the revolutionary (L337), the oppressed hoping to be free (Chewy), the DTA stalwart (Beckett), the martyr (Val), or the guy holding all the cards (Lando). All vulnerable to getting hurt. - Qi'ra being the only true survivalist, means it would ultimately have never worked out with Han. This is plain to see as soon as they meet up for the first time after being separated. It reminds me, getting older now, of relationships and plans you had that didn't work out, and those that never would have worked out in the long run. In the OT Han tried being a survivalist but just couldn't do it, he was a good guy after all, so he would risk his life. Same with TFA - fatally so. I'm not saying they should do this, but having old Qi'ra in episode ix would be very interesting, with Han and now (presumably) Leia gone. How does a survivalist see the whole arc of the empire, rebellion, and first order? - This movie does a great job world-building, where the empire reaches and doesn't reach, and who lives on the fringe hoping for a better cut of what the galaxy has to offer. And did it without the typical protagonist-at-age-9 scenes, or "the one" with no knowledge of their special past that is destined for greatness. This movie is a small slice of someone who is a street urchin who grows up making not-enough-money smuggling, then becomes a reluctant resistance hero relegated to myth, but can't make a spousal relationship work, falls back on said subpar smuggling, and is ultimately murdered by his son. None of this, including this movie, is "safe" by any stretch of the imagination. - We didn't get enough character development to nearly bridge to the Han of the Original Trilogy, so this Han to me is still it's own thing, and that's fine. Should this movie get any sequels, maybe one of them will eventually end with two guys walking into a bar looking for a job, while outside a stormtrooper tells street traffic to "Move along." And finally, the Maul appearance had more advance clues than I realized, now that I think about it. One, Crimson Dawn - the rising of the red Sun, or the red son, as in the red-faced son of Dathomir. Also, Lego releasing its Maul constraction figure in the same wave as the Solo sets, seemed random at first, but was actually on-point.

I read the article. It didn't shit all over Democrats at all. What it did was highlight what activists and the base were doing in protesting Trump, detainment, etc. and how establishment Senators like Durbin think (incorrectly IMO) this is new for the party. Others (like a former Pelosi aide) still insisting that "no, you don't win on your activism, you win by reaching out to moderates." We know they've been doing that for decades, so why have all the "wins" for the people been so tenuous in law and economically weak? What would actually be new for the party would be representing Democratic voters without the establishment leaders masking their conservatism. So yes, the establishment is under duress - they haven't known what to do with an active base of voters for quite some time now.

I saw Sarandon on TV a few times in 2016 before the election, and then she appeared on MSNBC in February 2017 (search "sarandon Chris Hayes", you'll find a link) she was purposefully being disingenuous when it came to discussing her "Donald Trump could bring a revolution" comments she made before the election. This has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton, other than one candidate in the general who was in no way going to bring about the revolution Sarandon espoused.

Have Roy Moore and the Alabama GOP stopped Doug Jones from serving? No. As for the other concerns, there have been hundreds of marches around the world involving millions of people expressly because they DON'T have faith in the institutions, or the people that represent them. There are protests daily all over the country. Further, state legislatures and traditionally conservative seats have been continuously overturned in 2017 and 2018, and with each election the people of the US continue to be represented by a more diverse group. Sitting governors continue to be pushed leftward by their constituents and election challengers. Even in majority-red areas, Democratic Senators up for re-election keep rising to the top. It's up to people if they want to block out what people have actually been doing to help. Yes, Trump does and continues to do things with a terrible level of maliciousness, and yes in many cases the door was left open too wide for him to do so by all the reasons that have been hashed to death here and elsewhere. But it's still a door, which means it can be closed.

So statistically speaking, school students' collective ego is inflated because crime is down overall? We know some jobs are inherently or directly more dangerous than others. But the President isn't calling roofers or fishermen "fake roofs" or "fake catches". His supporters aren't wearing t-shirts calling for roofers or fishermen to be assembled to nooses. The President is all but calling Harley-Davidson "fake patriots" though. This tweet reads like "don't worry too much about them, their ego isn't on your side". Their ego may not be on the side of the readers, but they're still people that don't deserve to be gunned down.

A party? No, of course not. Gorsuch was close though, where it comes to supreme court nominee votes which are typically high. He only got 54. And there was not much people paid attention to ideologically, at the time. So even with a low vote count, it wasn't incredibly difficult to do. But a party of one person, which is what Trump and the Republicans now are, ideologically speaking, is potentially different. Trump floats Harriet Miers moments in the form of trial balloons all the time, but should he happen upon a candidate that can line up enough yes votes with ease, he won't want to wait another moment for any reason. We'll see, I guess.

Not true. States continually win injunctions against this administration - right now the admin is being forced by a court to reunite the young detained children within two weeks, and the "older" children within 30 days. States are recalling their troops from "border support". States have continually won injunctions against the travel ban and ending DACA willy-nilly, and have made economic agreements and climate agreements with other countries. State legislatures who are tired of the ultra-conservative economic "experiments" of austerity from their governors are starting to overturn them, and their voters are populating more Democratic representatives. Usually Supreme Court nominees are either rejected before the process starts, or they pretty much sail through. It took a relatively tough road just for Gorsuch to secure the nomination, and this one is going to be sooo much harder. Many more people are paying attention to this now (and I agree with everyone that they should have paid attention in 2015 and 2016, this is a terrible and very costly way to take a civics course). Nationwide, governors and their candidates are being pushed to the left by the pressures put on them by the constituents and opponents, even the ones where the polling is lopsided. Hundreds of marches are happening on Saturday in support of non-resident non-citizens, which will cost the economy plenty and blow a summer weekend for hundreds of thousands if not millions of citizens. Shooting protesters has unfortunately already happened without the US falling into a dictatorship. So has pardoning a President who "enjoyed" party support right up until the end, but lots of people went to jail over it. Political opponents have been censured and impeached without the US falling into a dictatorship. These are weaknesses of the US, sure, but they don't necessarily signal a looming dictatorship.

Yep. The thing is is that if the Democratic Senators were to do something like that, they can't just be invisible or "nowhere". They would all have to be publicly somewhere else, and very visible to successfully suggest that where they are and what they are doing is more important than cooperating with a Supreme Court nomination process offshooting from a denied confirmation and Russian interference in an election. This is why they would need a large amount of public pressure on their side, just to have a chance of even pulling something like that off.

Yes he is good and was blocked the whole time during his tenure, and Clinton had unfair circumstances during the campaign, I agree. But he should not have told people to not boo while our country was being undermined and assisting/working with another campaign and he knew about it. Unfortunately with Obama you risk dredging up situations that will be too easily compared to the present problems - the normalisation of George Bush's presidency because Bush was "nice" to Obama during the transition (the one thing about Obama that sounds Trumpian, and a final hand-washing of Katrina when we just had Puerto Rico), deportations that were still terrible vis-a-vis family separations, a stolen and uncontested supreme court seat, and a party that couldn't be bothered running in a bunch of races. The national attitudes and outlook on that have all changed in the short time Trump has been president, and people in both parties, particularly at the state level, have discovered just how underrepresented they are - or perhaps allowed themselves to be. If Obama has been helping behind the scenes, I hope he continues to do so. If he wants to come out publicly and gloat about TPP or ACA, he deserves those. But the rest of it - stick with the Netflix stuff for now. It's bad enough you have Comey and Jeh Johnson making the public rounds glossing over their own mistakes like their impact isn't so profound. Obama does that in an interview even once, or they play clips of his past statements contradicting today's sentiments and ask him to respond, it's an unneeded distraction if he can't be as direct and forthright as, say, Ocasio-Cortez has been.

I don't see how this is going to motivate Democrats who aren't already motivated at this point. And in the absence of a Mueller conclusion it's just going to rehash what he did and didn't know before the election and during the transition. Sorry, I don't see how this is going to help. Obama isn't on the ballot, and no one is in the mood for "I tried" or "I told you so."

If someone doesn't get confirmed until the new congress, then we're in Mueller time plus Manafort conviction and who-knows-what with Cohen and RNC. If someone gets confirmed before the election, or during the lame-duck session, it would make every future local, state, and national election about Roe v. Wade - for every voter on each side - until the law can be put firmly put in place, and protected, in the majority of states. As it would be with healthcare and the looming tax increases in a year or more for some. Basically, the hard finalization of the Republican party as Trump. I think the process will go better if people start reminding us of how many women are suing Trump, plus the disgraced public servants over the years who have arranged or called for their mistresses to have abortions. People may even start publicly asking women, and with no discretion, "have you ever had an abortion?" That's terribly invasive, of course, but the country has had 45 years of anti-abortion laws being passed knowing that they can't pass the final judicial test, even if the laws could survive the lower courts. Once this changes, people are going to start acting differently.

But the summation was if all Senate Democrats can agree to "not be doormats" for the nomination process, and get one Republican to "flip". Yep, it's basically what we already know, but under the "Hey, Doug Jones was elected in Alabama, so it can happen" scenario. Didn't mince words about it being about protecting Roe v. Wade though. Ok. Sanders at least spent that extra month showing the public that people wanted more out of the Democratic party leadership than a presumptive nominee. That turned out to be worth it, and it had no bearing on the general election itself and where the votes fell short. And I'm saying this as someone who thinks that what he said today was very foot-in-mouth, even though his movement has awakened some broader activism. I am concerned that Ocasio-Cortez may just follow the Sanders playbook move for move, and has not yet come up with her own congressional playbook to match her winning campaign.

You mean like he got his immigration policy of keeping everyone out forever? His travel ban? His wall? His complete abolishment of ACA? His tax cut with budget rescissions so he doesn't have to pay for a budget he signed into law? None of these have come to pass. Yes his being elected and his actions have resulted in downright shitty things. But they are much less shitty than he and this Republican crew originally wanted. He's settled for these less-shitty situations in every single case, including accepting Gorsuch. Again, for people who aren't as familiar with Trump as those who have known him for decades, he settles and seeks bailout help to get him out of trouble almost every time. The whole tariff and economic pressure thing on other countries has been his effort to bail his businesses (and Jared's businesses) out of debt/trouble, but there will be no bailing himself out of a recession. The lack of good press during a 12 hour period will have him seeking to be bailed out by, say, signing an executive order "ending the separation of families", even if it is just for show, and that continues to not work. There will be marches all over the country this weekend, and now more people will join in on this because of this supreme court vacancy. The nomination of a second supreme court justice will only bring up the headlines of what happened with Merrick Garland, and this time the President isn't so "new at this" so the positive press won't be there this go-around. Plus, the Mueller silence continues to grow more deafening in Trump's ears by the day, visibly affecting his ability to lead a caucus.

So do people want Ocasio-Cortez to just pack it in, because there's no hope left, or something? People have been running, and winning, all throughout 2017 and 2018. Also, do you agree with this? I completely agree with . Interpretations of “us vs them” are unproductive in our discourse and, in my opinion, misguided. This is about fierce advocacy for working class Americans.

Crowley was a fundraising machine and a county party leader, so he just doesn't disappear all of a sudden. He knows how to funnel money and influence to benefit his district. Because of the nature of establishment politics, some people in the Bronx and Queens will lose out in the short term, and OC isn't a replacement for that. Nor will she just assume the party leadership spot in Congress in Crowley's absence, it doesn't work that way. Like most congressional freshmen, she'd get the worst of the office rooms and have to fight her way to get onto committees. The good news is that should the blue wave happen, she will have lots of company in that regard.

Except when it comes to campaigning and fundraising, which is where I see the potential friction between party coalitions. Plus, representatives occasionally vote "no" on good bills they know will pass, to make a dissenting point or simply highlight a concern - something that is often misinterpreted as being on the "wrong side" of an issue. People are going to overreact to her every move and I hope they don't treat her too disposably and call for a primary challenger for the next race too soon.

And that's the question. At some point, both the DSA and the Democratic establishment are going to come calling and ask "you're with us, right?" Curious to see how the answer develops over time. As for Crowley, he was always "in line" for speaker, as in a possible candidate "someday". The media is taking dramatic liberties with this, also calling another NY incumbent's race an upset even though she's still leading with 93% reported in.

This is consistent with his attitude towards a special counsel leading prosecutions in his courtroom - the prosecuting personnel must be above board and free of partisan bias. In addition, their case must be ready to prove, and tight enough as to not necessitate the appellate process on the grounds of partisan bias or mistakes in prosecution. The judge in effect is telling the other side that challenges to his court based on this, without sufficient cause or evidence, will be denied. Not seeing an issue here.

I understand the move towards artistic/creative awards, but tech categories shouldn't disappear - even if they're not broadcast. Still, it's a tough year with so many stand-out titles. Also, SunhiLegend would have been a good candidate for "Trending Gamer" award this year, rather than streamer-winning-online-vote (which could be its own award if they want to). This award still needs some work.

Just finished the main Frozen Wilds quest last night. Did not expect the final sequence to go as long as it did. What started out as an unassuming quest in yet another snowy area turned into one of the emotional highlights of the year, with a not-at-all obvious mystery, and humor added for good measure. Just a few years ago this would have been considered a full game. I like how every part of this new area is used, and is useful. They found a way to make the ultraweave vulnerable without nerfing it (in case you think you can go through invincibly after the main quest). They found a way to add post-quest content, too, so that the new equipment isn't spent only on the expansion's main quest. There are no huge lore dumps like the main quest had, the lore is spaced out nicely. I didn't try the new weapons and outfits - so it was still possible to make it through with existing equipment (I may have made things harder for myself though). I'm looking forward to trying them out now. This has probably taken Horizon as far as it can go in its current state. They have their work cut out for them for the next game. Now for the spoiler-talk:

Skimming through the free Frozen Wilds guide download, it's interesting to see how well thought out the relationships between outfits and weapons are. It becomes a bit of a game figuring out how to use outfits to minimize the damage you might take from using the most powerful weapons.

It really was. I never used any of the new weapons, though I would have had an easier time if I did. Instead I made the same stupid decisions as I did in the base game, like using shock wires on enemies where it had little effect, and not using hardpoint arrows to cause damage.

The fidelity of this game is very disappointing compared to other first-party and third-party Mario titles on Switch. It doesn't look close to the splash screens at all. The sawtooth and weakly-dithered shadows, the lower-poly geometry (Mario's nose!) makes for a disappointing showing for Mario and crew. Also, an "adventure mode" that doesn't match up to campaigns like Mario rabbids, odyssey, tropical freeze, etc. which excel, is going to be problematic for the Switch as it's life cycle continues. Still, there is a competent game to be played here. It's not traditional tennis at all, and it's not nearly Marko Kart for tennis. This is misleading in the same way saying move-avoiding combat makes a game souls-like. But the game has its own facets and charms which are worth exploring.

Thread: Why women criticise sexualised character designs (READ OP)
I read the OP and I acknowledge the OP's frustration when confronting others with this topic. But there are implications that are beyond just oversexed in appearance: Go back and look at the camera work on the cutscenes in The Last Of Us. When the men meet an ignoble end, their faces are often out-of-focus, cut away quickly, hooded, masked, or off-camera (example: Bill's Town - THAT scene). And they aren't forced to talk much about how they're feeling. But when the women are harmed in this game, it is shown up front - bitten, bleeding, suffering, and made to face the camera and talk about it. When they are killed on camera, even when their face is away from the camera, the camera stays in focus, unlike the men. The one time in the game where you as the player can linger on women as you kill them, you don't have total camera control, and the women pose no gameplay threat to you. Further, when men are strung up and hung in this world, you don't see their faces (again: Bill's Town or in-game courtyards). But not the women - just look at the newest TLOU II trailer - writhing, in pain, lingering on camera, and broken right before your very eyes. Not even that guy from the "Winter" chapter received such an honor as being struck down while the camera was in focus. Now go back and look at the TLOU II Ellie guitar trailer - one man's body is face down, another man's body is out of focus as the camera moves by it, but then it settles and focuses on a dead woman in the bathroom - the camera lingers there for a moment before moving on. When I see the word "females" on this forum, I too often hear the Ferengi from Star Trek The Next Generation and their cringing attitude towards women when saying the word, but I can't be sure that's what the poster means when they write "females" instead of "women". It could be unintentional - but I won't know until I ask them. Same with the The Last of Us - are women being featured prominently here because they are important, or are they the subjects of a fetish, or both, or is it unintentional? Fretting over stake-less opinions won't move progress forward, but communicating with people who make and support the games might do so, even though it's possible the answers may not be to everyone's liking.
