I'm actually hoping to review this on Switch; its features and UX. KORG PR got back to me saying that they haven't received any codes from Nintendo yet. I'm assuming that, as with a lot of third-party software, they'll likely get them right before launch. I wish Nintendo was promoting this more from their own social accounts. This is a cool tool, and could pave the way for similar software suites making their way to Switch.

West of Loathing has made me laugh out loud every time I boot it up. It has truly, very clever writing, and is so aware of itself as a game. It's also just a fun little RPG with great pacing, and offers novel takes on classic RPG elements, classes, enemies, and stereotypes. I honestly enjoy its caricaturization of the genre much more than the South Park games.

This looks good to me, and the devs are being very open about Pokemon as the inspiration. I don't see this as at-all shady, and like another member states above, TPC could use some serious competition. Will do a little more research tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I'll back this. Seems to me like the devs are trying to create the Pokemon game they've always wanted to play themselves, deviating from the original only as much as they need to.

In my honest opinion, no other game is doing F2P better than Fortnite. You don't have to pay a dime to play the most popular game in the world, and you don't have to pay a dime to partake in these unique live events, evolving story threads, and map changes. When you DO pay for a Battle Pass, you not only get rewards right up front, but it also unlocks tons of new challenges and milestones to work for all season long. I love that it doesn't just give you stuff. It gives you much, much more to do. Non-paying players also have challenges to unlock and work toward throughout the season, but those who are willing to pay for the Battle Pass are likely the players who play much more frequently, and their willingness to pay and play is rewarded with even more reasons to play. In the end, it looks like everyone is getting what they want, and the rotating modes keep things fresh. I've played Fortntie for months now because we report on it so frequently -- it was just a part of my job -- but now I consider myself a fan. EPIC is doing such a great job with this project.

I wouldn't say casual per se, but definitely more streamlined. The gameplay is tailored to encourage more aggressive, faster matches, which is perfect for me. Heroes also have fewer abilities. Each "champ" will have a main attack, two abilities, a passive ability, and an ultimate. Each character also has a ton of slots you unlock over time, into which you insert items that augment things like their attack speed, cast speed, total health, magic points, magic strength, attack pierce, etc. These augments are such that, at high levels of play, two players using the same hero may use them in vastly different ways. The main gameplay loop is the same. Three lanes, multiple towers in each lane, jungle and jungle enemies, and powerful items you purchase throughout the match as you level up and get gold.

Isn't it so great?! I played it at PAX East last year and the whole group had blast, so I knew I'd pick it up, but I was really pleasantly surprised by the story mode and how it's basically just a love letter to great games. And a gift to the player. I always felt cared for the whole time I played. All of the hints, all of the story beats and surprises, and hell, even the game over screen just gave me great positive vibes.

That is a great track. I think the one I've played, and replayed, and replayed the most is Barracuda: If you have really good headphones or a sub-woofer in your gaming room the bass is so bumpin.' The musical scale is also kind of creepy-crawly like the little snake enemies that litter the screen. And that breakdown at 00:44 is just so fuckin' sick when you're in the zone. I will never NOT bob my head super hard when that part kicks in.

West of Loathing has been really enjoyable so far. I woke up my wife last night laughing out loud at the writing, and I'm the type who never laughs in movies or shows or games; something about this humor just resonates with me and the writing is so cheeky. It is a bit slow-going, but the RPG elements are tied in uniquely and humorously, kind of like what you've seen in the South Park RPGs. For the price, I think it's one of the safest buys on the eshop right now. Just Shapes & Beats continues to entertain, surprise, and challenge me. I love it very much. There are so many Super Mario references and obvious inspirations in some of the "boss fights," and some of the songs are such over the top bangers. The constant mash-up of audio visual spectacle and bullet-hell challenges have had me glued to the screen, headphones on, with bated breath.

Guys, Just Shapes & Beats is SO damn fun. I played the game last year at PAX East and knew that it would be fun with friends, but I wasn't expecting the single-player story mode to be as fun as it has been. It's taken me totally by surprise in a good way. This game was obviously designed and developed by people who love video games. I've also had a ton of fun playing challenges online with randoms.

I feel like I'm pretty garbage at Mario Tennis Aces too, OP, which is weird. I'm a competitive dude. I like to play hard when I play FPS games and fighting games, but whenever I go online in Mario Tennis Aces I tend to get my shit rocked and it's really frustrating. I also suck at literally all racing sim games because I have no idea how to tune my car for specific event types and I cannot drift to save my life. Forza Horizon and Mario Kart are my jam, anything more serious or demanding than that I do not handle very well.

I'm right there with you OP. I'm a bit of a faker because I played this when I was a kid, right after VII, and I loved it so much but only got about five or six hours in and never beat it. Ever since then, though, I've always claimed it as one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. I bought it again on PSP but the slowdown during battle made it unbearable. Now I have it on my phone, where it runs perfectly, and I really need to finish it this time. I've always been very impressed by the writing, and I know the story has many hidden meanings.

It looks like the trade-in value for Pro members at GameStop is roughly $18 for the pink, and about$16 for the green. So, per pair, you'd get about $34 of trade in credit. Just take your time. Grind a bit. Use your abilities more liberally instead of waiting to store up overcharge. You can always exit the dungeon, go sleep at the inn, and then go back and pick up where you left off. Get as far as you can in the dungeon going all-out in battles, exhaust that MP, go back and sleep, walk around and engage in battles on the world map for a bit, go sleep, and then go back to the dungeon. A little grinding never hurts!

Huh. Well that seemed unnecessarily combative. As for me, I enjoyed the game very much, but didn't hesitate to point out what I considered to be minor, but obvious, issues. Unless a launch day patch corrected all of this, the frame rate does drop noticeably while in exploration sections / dungeons. A few of the early game dungeons show noticeable drops, particularly the sewers underneath the tavern. Undocked, the resolution and aliasing are a bit muddy during these segments as well, but again, not to an extreme degree at all (just noticeable). My other gripe -- again, a minor gripe -- was loading times. There are many, and they can be pretty long. Going in and out of dungeons, and even initiating many battles. Sometimes combat starts instantly, and sometimes a loading screen pops up first. Otherwise I've enjoyed the game very much, and have spoken highly of it.

My tv does also have a motion plus kind of setting that is supposed to smooth stuff out, I wonder if turning that off would help. I'm pretty sure it's already off, though... I'll have to tinker with stuff when I get home from work. I play many other 60 fps games though and have never had any issues. Rocket League and Fortnite are two I've played recently, for example, and I haven't had any issues with framerate. Edit: really sorry for bumping the thread with this. Y'all should be talking about the game and how much fun you're having! I will say I have been enjoying the music very much, and it's been kicking my ass. I'm a musician and I love rhythm games, so I expected to waltz in here and take off. In reality I find that I'm consistently looking for lower star 4-button songs just so I can get by.

Okay I brought this up in the other thread but I need to know: Is anyone else experiencing / talking about super inconsistent frame rates when the notes stream down? I'm playing on a PS4 Pro and I've tried with Boost Mode off and on. It's legit throwing me off. I'm very rhythmically oriented, and I get into a deep groove watching those notes stream down. I kind of blur out my vision and rely on the rate at which they fall down to know when and what notes to hit. When the frames start slowing down and the note prompts start dragging it messes me up, and it's maddening. There really is no excuse for this not being 60 fps 100% of the time, but no one else could corroborate the issue in the other thread.

Not too shocked, to be honest. I could see them censoring it even if it was a guy and a girl. I think it was less to do about it being a lesbian kiss and more to do with the fact that it crosses over into "making out" territory, and you can see tongue going into mouth. I'm not sure what Disney XD typically allows when it comes to that kind of thing, but tongue-in-mouth does seem a little off-brand for a Disney channel.

I know I'm going to be in a hated minority here, but I am super, super turned off by the over-the-top violence scenes. The hammer in the first trailer, and the gut ripping and neck stabbing in this one... I dunno. I don't like it when ultra-violence is used for sheer shock value. Personal opinion, obviously, but that has soured me on both trailers now. Otherwise, I think it looks so fantastic, and I want to learn more about these characters.

I'm pretty lukewarm on this lineup. I'll probably check out Cities Skylines, otherwise there isn't much for me here. I do think that Xbox is missing a bit of an opportunity to "wow" all of the new Game Pass subscribers who hopped on as trial for Sea of Thieves. No doubt they just saw a huge influx or trials go live and, if I were in charge, I'd want to make sure that all of those people see some awesome games join the lineup right afterward so they can say, "Wow, this is going to be so worth it." Forza Horizon 3 would have been a great addition, for example. Either way, I'm subbed and plan to stay subbed; I just think it's strange that Xbox didn't take this chance to hook that two-week trial crowd.

I'm having a great time so far, and can say with confidence that I vastly prefer the new controls over mobile. I do, however, wish that they would let us use the touch-screen to select specific items in the store to buy. It seems like you have to select an upgrade path, and then when you have enough gold it will auto-suggest one of two options and you have to pick one of those two, is that right? Have y'all figured out a way to browse around and select any item you can afford at any point in time?

Thanks, I know that you can pre-determine your item upgrade path beforehand, and I know that you can turn auto-purchase off, but as far as I can tell once you're in a match it still only allows you to select one of the individual item upgrade paths, and then decide between one of two items at any given time, as opposed to choosing literally any available item that you can currently afford with gold on-hand. The latter you can do in the mobile version, and I'm used to kind of tweaking my build on the fly that way, but on Switch I've yet to see how to do that.

Left on the d-pad does indeed bring up the store and, while it *shows* all of the items, you cannot select individual items. Tapping them does nothing with the touchscreen, and you can only navigate up and down entire upgrade paths, not individual items (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If it's anything like the mobile version, your first few matches will be against AI opponents as a way to kind of "round out" the tutorial, and then it moves to pure PvP.

OH shoot... I saw this thread and immediately got smacked with a pang of guilt since I haven't booted up the game in two days. That's how you know this is a legit Animal Crossing experience: You'll feel guilty for abandoning your friends for too long. I just unveiled my first amenity a couple of days ago and feel really good about where everything is going. It's a very pleasant grind. I haven't felt the need to purchase any leaf tickets, though I am saving up for that KK Slider stool so he'll come to my campsite. 250 tickets is steep, but you earn them steadily.

I've heard that they are far more comfortable than the in-ear earphones I'm used to, but I can't really stomach it. I've had to break out healing items for pretty much every boss I've fought, yes. Honestly, I like it. I'm the type of person who hoards items and never uses them. I've found that Octopath both showers me with healing a boost items, and also demands that I use them generously when needed. That seems like a pretty good balance to me! Kind of in the same way that SMT / Persona games actually force you to use buff / debuff spells for bosses, when typically, those types of spells just go to waste.

I "cleared" the demo with Therion, and decided to start a new game with Ophilia so I could see her area. After arriving at a save point, I only have one slot open to me, and it's my Therion slot. Are we not supposed to have multiple saves? Did you guys play the original demo? I knew from the very first reveal trailer that this game was for me since I LOVED Saga Frontier as a kid, and the demo sealed the deal. I'm excited to try more characters in this updated version, and I'm so glad progress carries over. I haven't felt this giddy since the Lunar Silver Star Story Complete demo came out for PS1. It was the same deal. I played the SHIT out of that demo because I just couldn't wait for the full game, and I knew progress would carry over.

I've seen a few posts about the move controllers. I left one plugged into my PS4 overnight to charge, and then swapped out the other when I woke up. It had several hours to charge. When I booted everything up it still showed up as having no battery, and ended up dying after about half an hour. Do these charge obnoxiously slowly, or do I have a faulty Move controller? This came out of the box, new.

Hey guys! I'm a spoiled brat, and so incredibly lucky, because Sony sent us the Skyrim PSVR bundle and it ended up falling into my hands. So obviously I have Skyrim to play, but I've recently put in so many hours into Skyrim on Switch I'm not sure if I can bring myself to start yet another new file. I'm wondering what you all consider to be the best games to play using the move controllers. I'll probably pick up Superhot. My wife and I also had a lot of fun with the play room. I think I honestly prefer playing with the Joy-Con directional buttons. It's easier for me to tell when I'm holding straight down vs down diagonal for attacks. I really love this so far. But holy SHIT the AI is such a try hard. This is the only fighting game I've ever played where I feel like I need to go play online to stop getting my ass kicked. Usually it's the other way around. I hope they update the game to add more variety to the difficulty.

Wow guys, really? OP, definitely reach out to them on Twitter, and definitely call customer support again. As soon as you encounter someone saying that they can't do anything about it, firmly request that they escalate the matter and demand to speak to the next most-senior rep available. If the points are gone, then this can definitely be traced back to the transaction and the employees who lied to you can definitely be held accountable. It may be uncomfortable, but you may need to go back to the store in person and ask when a manager will be in, and then go talk to them directly.

I asked a Tencent rep that very question during an interview, and from what I can tell, I think they're going to keep the mobile and Switch versions and accounts separate. Since they are really serious about this being a competitive game, they were thinking that cross-play wouldn't be a good idea, because players on mobile could cite unfair gameplay advantages to those able to use a controller (or vice versa). Basically, since this is going to be an esport that Tencent pours money into, they want to make sure that everyone is playing on the level, which means keeping controls the same for everyone.

I have found that ERA is generally averse to admitting that mobile games can be great and competitive games, which is why this has largely flown under the radar. Many of us have been talking about it for a while, though, and honestly I think it plays even better on Switch. I think people will come around once it actually launches. It's a fantastic game, and Tencent has already shown ample support for it on mobile. It is ongoing, and concluding soon, so no. They'll probably do another one, though, or else announce a launch date in the near future. They already had a major beta phase in Europe.

Damn, sometimes I hate this player-base so much. After a 5-win streak, and a fresh rank up to Silver II, I got on a team with 3 people who all wanted to pick marksmen and we had one warrior. No mage, no real tanks... So I picked Grakk, who I rarely play. I couldn't choose my main because the team was so unbalanced, but no one would switch. I kept sending messages, but everyone thought they would be the ultimate badass marksman I guess. Well, our team got rocked, and everyone spread out everywhere doing their own thing, and the other team was of course perfectly balanced and working together. I had 6 deaths and didn't accumulate much gold. Our Valhein had 5 deaths and only had 1K more gold than me, but at the end of the match multiple teammates reported me, and my credibility ranking just took a hit for the first time since I downloaded the game. I know it's not a big deal, but I was absolutely infuriated. I'm still fuming, and wish I could appeal those reports somehow.

Great advice, thank you. I wasn't angry with my teammates because I died or because I had to swap roles. Like I said, our primary marksman died just as much as I did (five times), so I wasn't embarrassed or anything. I was just upset and felt targeted. I got reported, I assume for feeding, when I was just trying to do my best with a character I didn't know how to play, and comparatively, I didn't actually die very much. Admittedly, I should have just stuck with Chaugnar. His damage output is minimal, but he's obviously still tanky and could have filled the "warrior" need well enough. I also play Chaug pretty conservatively. I poke with my abilities and dive into team fights sparingly, only when my ult is ready to go (because it negates controlling effects and allows me to spam an ability for a few seconds). Playing a more aggressive role I felt more compelled to get involved in team fights because I knew everyone else in my lane was squishy AF. I got involved too much and got targeted most of the time, so the issues soon fed into each other as I was soon underleveled with few items. This is my first MOBA, and I'm still learning how to deal with team composition and roles. Playing almost exclusively with randoms I find that I take it upon myself to make sure we have a balanced team, when I know that shouldn't be my concern and mine alone. I definitely should have picked my battles more wisely or stuck with the character I knew. I'm also comfortable using a couple of mages, but in this instance, the last thing we needed was another squishy champ.

FYI: the interview will take me a bit to transcribe because the spokesperson was a little difficult to understand. I'll have it up on Monday or Tuesday. For the sake of this thread and discussion here, I will go ahead and disclose that, according to Tencent, a lot of the finer details about the Switch launch are still in the air and under discussion. He did mention that the positive North American response has been welcome and that the team is wanting catch up the US market to where Europe is. He said that the mobile test servers were prepared first in Europe, and so the Switch test servers were also prepared first. After the EU Switch beta concludes, they'll make a more concentrated effort to do everything at the same time. He did not have a solid window to offer me for the US Switch beta or Switch launch. He also said that Tencent is still trying to decide if accounts will be shared between Switch and mobile, and if there will be cross-play between the two, or if they will make those accounts completely separate. He said the team is concerned that by sharing accounts and servers between the two versions, it could lead to complaints about unfair advantages on one platform or the other. They have not made a decision in that regard. I also asked about pricing on the Switch -- whether they would keep the same free-to-play / in-game purchases model, or opt for a premium one-time purchase model. He said that Tencent focuses on monetization last, and that gameplay, balance, controls, and roster all come before that discussion. He made it clear that monetization is something they're not concerned with figuring out right at this moment; they just want to get the gameplay right in all of its facets. He also said that, at this point in time, the DC Heroes are seen as a permanent part of the Arena of Valor game. He wasn't concerned about any future licensing woes.

I've experienced variances in my loading time. It might be based more on connection and less on hardware. Sometimes I jump to 100% almost right after the loading screen comes up, and sometimes I'm sitting at 50-60% after everyone else is already at 100.

I can second this. I don't watch or play MOBAs generally, but I just got back from HRX and the SMITE World Championships. It's amazing how much of the fighting is just poking at running away. The full on team battles are very rare. Watching pro SMITE players also made me realize that I have no idea how and when to effectively jungle.

I've thought about this, actually. The 'A' button could initiate your basic attack. There are only two abilities and an ultimate, right? Let's consider using your first ability. Simply hold down the left trigger while you aim with the right stick, and release the trigger to use your ability. Click in the right stick to cancel. Same with the second ability and the right trigger. For your ultimate, pull both triggers at once. That leaves you free at all times to keep moving with the left stick, and aim with the right stick. I assume targeting will work the same as it does on mobile. You can adjust parameters in settings that will adjust your targeting priorities between minions, towers, and heroes.

What xir said. The arcana do buff your stats slightly (or somewhat significantly when you start stacking Tier III arcana), but you can only unlock them with in-game currency, which can't be purchased with real money.

I'm working on this as well. The downside is, when playing tank / support, my teammates seem to get really mad at me when I don't rush in and absorb the abuse of the enemy team on their behalf. I know that's what a tank does, but I'm not going to rush in and get killed every time they want to make an advance. I poke, retreat, poke, retreat, rush in for a couple quick abilities, retreat... It's like they expect me to just rush in and act as a magnet.

I've done that a few times before. Intense fighting leads to me creeping through the jungle and taking those final few swipes while everyone's trying to get a triple kill and be a hero. Just keep us in the loop. I'd be willing to throw down a few bucks and split the cost a few ways with some other members.

I would assume that, if you were looking to play tank / support, that any arcana you've saved up should still apply. My tier III arcana for Chaugnar has been pretty great for Grakk as well. Ability damage, high HP, and high DF and magic DF. Actually, now that I've spent so much on tier III arcana for Chaugnar I feel pretty locked into that role. I feel like I'd be gimped picking a mage or assassin -- even though those bonuses are so small compared to the items you unlock in the course of play.

I have definitely not had that experience. Most 5v5 matches I've played I've seen at least one player per lane, though I don't often see dedicated junglers. If anything, I typically see too many people trying to drive up the middle. We're definitely witnessing the flattening out of a learning curve at the moment. For many people, and for myself, AoV is our first MOBA. As for the Road to Glory, that will stick around. I'm fact, it caps out at two hero unlocks per day, if I'm not mistaken, and Road to Glory is the only way to unlock those heroes; they can't be purchased. It adds a really rewarding grind for newcomers. I quite enjoyed the constant unlock gratification.

I have DropMix and four of the expansions (rock, electronic, hip hop, and pop), as well as one of the random booster packs. One of the expansions (rock) I haven't even opened yet. I love the game, but I never have friends over so I very rarely play it. I may part ways with it. I'm thinking about putting it all together for $100 shipped. That's what the base game costs at retail, and this will come with 69 extra cards (in addition to the 60 base cards). If anyone is definitely interested let me know, otherwise I'll probably just hold onto it.

If you don't like it, you don't like it. It's kind of like Tetris or Puyo Puyo in that way. The gameplay is what it is, and if it doesn't click with you, and you don't like going hands on with that kind of gameplay loop, then that's perfectly fine.
